Looking for some help with hotels. Got a trip to Crete and Istanbul in the near future and was just wondering if anyone has a suggestion for places to stay/things to do?

Rice--I stayed in the IST Rennaisance Polat last summer and it was nice. A little far from downtown but the pool scenery was awsome! Right on the Sea of Marmara.

Our handler took us downtown for dinner. Better get reservations at the hoppin' places near the Bosporous. Good luck.TC

Our last trip before we left Italy in Dec was to Crete and Santorini. We just got our pictures developed yesterday and were bemoaning how much we miss Europe.

If you are flying into Iraklion, I’d recommend the Creta Sun of the Grecotel chain (http://www.grecotel.gr/Content.aspx?con_id=540&lan_id=1
). We stayed at the Marine Place, which was absolutely great. In Chania, we stayed at the Amphora (www.amphora.gr) which is right in the heart of the old city and has great charm. It is a bit of a drive from the airport, but you really won’t find anything close to the field at Chania.

In Iraklion, an absolute must see is the Place of Knossos, about 30 min from downtown. Also, the museum in Iraklion is worth the trip and complements the trip to the excavation. If you only have time for one, do the Place. See www.culture.gr for pics etc.

Stock up on Cretean olive oil. It is the best in the med, a 5L can should run ~15 euro (about $19) which is 40-50% of what you will pay here. Gold is also a good buy. If you have the time, Boutari winery (www.boutari.gr) has some great wines, especially the dessert wine, which I can’t even type the name. Get a cab or take a local though ‘cause it is a pain to find.

It’s been at least 13 years since I’ve been to Istanbul, so I can’t be of much help there.

VVJM265, thanks for all the gouge I plan on making good use of it, Med beaches, Greek food and wine, all should make for a few killer nights.

BTW I had Pete C. (from SD) as a sim partner last month, he had nothing but good to say about you. Guess he doesn't know you all that well .
