I interviewed for a job with a company, of which I thought I had a lot of interest with, for a King Air PIC position. After being told how much they wanted to hire me they told me I'd be making a lofty salary of 30000 a year with weak benefits that I'd pay a fortune for!

Is there anyone out there with reasonable experience in type that would work for this amount? I don't want to say the company, however it is between two major cities....definately not the middle of Montana.

Fortunately I have another very good offer so I am just wondering if this company will be able to fill the position. I worked for a company in the same scenario making double just a few years back.

I'm dumbfounded, just had to vent.

I would tell them honestly, and without getting pissed, that they are obviously looking for a pilot much less qualified and experienced. I would inform them that their offer is well less than half of what I would consider given the pay and benefits.

I wouldnt touch it for any less than $55K with full benefits and a schedule of 20 days or less a month.

That's a really good way to respond. I love it... "obviously looking for a pilot much less qualified and experienced."

I wish I thought of that when a company offered me $40,000/yr for a 135 Hawker PIC at 23+ days on a month PLUS office detail!

...lemme know if that dosent work out, i know an operator looking for current kingair guys for 60% more than what you were offered ;)

I don't have much time in the King Air 200...but I do have a fair amount of time in the larger King Air series aircraft. I would not accept a job like that for any less than $55-75k, depending on location. In a place where cost of living is extremely low, $55k minimum....for places that it's moderate to high, $75k. In addition, I would require 10 hard days off per month, minimum.

In defence of the employer, if they had ever looked at the pay scale of a person flying, say a B-1900 at a commuter, they could easily get the idea that 30K a year was pretty good.

We are seeing fallout and its hitting all forms of aviation. With the exception of a very few employers, big money in aviation is a thing of the past.
