I think that is great. Atleast they have the opportunity for a job and to keep flying.

Bye Bye--General Lee:cool:

shouldn't it go in REVERSE senority? What about those guys furloughed 23 months ago? they just keep sitting around on their elbows doing whatever while the guys that get furloughed next week walk right into another job? Sounds like a great idea to me.

Congrats on the MAINLINE ENTITLEMENT PROGRAM.

Hope you guys can shake things up there at Mesa.

I cant believe the UAL MEC would let their brethren have a taste of going from the best to the worst (UAL contract to Mesa Contract). I guess they are getting those pilots prepared for the future? Why would they encourage the Mesa "or" Skywest deals when furloughed UAL pilots can clearly sell cars or even work at McDonalds and fly a 172 as a CFI on the side for more cash and better lifestyle?? And mainline pilots want to blame RJ's on regional pilots....

another management win in my opinion.. .way to go ALPA...

is it any wonder the group ready to strike and stand up for what we are worth out there isnt represented by ALPA?

i dont agree with the RJDC and what they stand for. But im almost ready to communicate with them and start donations. Im not the only one. Some of you should spend one day in an ACA crew room.... I commend ALPA on many advances in the past. But it seems most of those advances from our ALPA "Fore-Fathers" are being reversed during present day. Tisk Tisk ALPA

RJ,

What you have to realize is that if the furloughed United pilots don't want to work at Mesa or Skywest they don't have to. This is simply an agreement like a preferential hiring type deal. If they want to work at a car dealership or Mickie D's then they are free to do so. It is their choice to work where they want and for whatever that company is paying. This thread may turn into yet another reason to blame Mesa for the present airline environment, global warming, monkeypox and anything else wrong in the world today

J32,

i agree (one of the VERY FEW times). But where do you think the industry is headed with low time inexperienced furloughed UAL pilots having the door open and applauded being pointed towards Mesa will end up? Think. If UAL MEC announce to their furlough pilots "Its more worth it to CFI and work McDonalds for a better paycheck and lifestyle than go to Mesa (true statement you cannot argue if you were a new hire)" Where do you think ALPA concentration would be?

i see management positions at 30K+ at almost every fast food establishment i drive tru. How long does UAL MEC anticipate UAL furloughes to be at Mesa and why are they encouraging it? Must be a foresight of the industry...

This industry will hit rock bottom with accidents and fataities before it returns to the worth of the investement we all made.

When UAL MEC endorses their pilots to go to Mesa just to fly when there are other ways to make more money and a much better lifestyle (even in this economy)... there is something definitely VERY WRONG!

According to the LAX council 57 special update on 8/20/03, Some pilots will start in the right seat of an RJ, some in the right
seat of a turboprop. All pilots hired will start at 2nd year RJ F/O
pay, approx $35K/yr I believe.

If someone is hired from United into one of these slots and then
subsequently leaves, the regional carrier will have to refill that
position with a furloughee, but they would be hired as a new hire at
first year pay.

There is an interview, but it is pretty much just a shake and greet,
you have the job.
.....................................
Plus if you are so experienced how come you work at a commuter and they were hired at United?

Not to start a big UAL hiring debate here, but when did experience have anything to do with getting hired at United?

The message today said the pay rate would be 27-35 per hour depending on Skywest or Mesa. (Wonder which one is Mesa?) At 70 hours a month of pay, that's a whopping 22K at Mesa and 29K at Skywest.

Actually it's $24,500 at Mesa. They can afford to supersize that way.

I highly doubt the UA MEC is "encouraging" their furloughees to come to Mesa or Skywest. Ok Mesa. They're just letting them know what's going on.

Can you see one of these ua pilots in ground school, "thats not the way we do it a united". LOL
What happens when "she" does not pass g/s or the sim.

RJ,

You bring up some good points. What really caught my attention is when you mentioned what ALPA is doing. They are only showing these guys a door in which they can go, albeit a very small one. ALPA is only doing this to say that they are "working hard for the furloughed pilots". When I was furloughed from CCair there were all sorts of promises about job fair this and all these airlines are coming to interview CCair pilots. "Don't worry we won't forget you." Well you know what happened with that? Yep, not a single airline came to any job fair and NO help from ALPA while I was furloughed and finding another job. I'm not one to sit on my arse and wait on someone to do something for me. I sent out resumes to different ALPA carriers everyday, called supposed contacts and used ALPA references. The end result is that I had to wait until the CCair and Mesa lists were finally recognized as one and got "recalled" to Mesa. My whole point within my personal sob story is that ALPA makes a lot of empty promises and uses smoke and mirrors, not unlike management, in order to keep the status quo.
Rant over, carry on.

You're making an uneducated generalization about a huge group of people.

please no flames, but i thought united j4j's at mesa was NEVER going to happen? or is this just the handy work of jo?

Looks like UA furloughees will get paid by Mesa or SkyWest at first year pay. United will pick up the difference between first and second year pay for these folks.

Sure wish they'd do that for those of us furloughees who are already flying their pax around on the RJ's. Once again, seniority is everything.

Jet_Dreamer,

jet 4 jobs for UAL pilots at mesa was not a JO thing. that was a united thing. j4j just complicates things and increase the wage rate depending on the agreement. however, great for the furloughees and getting people working again.
