Just heard from one of my company's pilots that United Express pilots are no longer permitted to occupy the UAL cockpit jumpseat. He said the UAL pilot showed him the FOM and he read that this is true. THis was on a domestic flight earlier today.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

I heard the same thing from our company. I don't know if it's a TSA thing or one of UAL's new policies. I hope UAL pilots are fighting this because we take a lot of UAL guys to work and what goes around comes around.

'UAL pilots fighting this'.....you mean like they fought for their furoughed pilots, or for a flow through, or for J4J so new guys could'nt get a shot at the airlines anymore.
Do yourself a favor, just avoid jumpseating on the big blue bowling shoe! When they come begging for a ride, leave up to the gate agent or flight attendant.

"just avoid jumpseating on the big blue bowling shoe!"

I can't! That big shoe is my primary means of getting to work and that jumpseat has saved my a$$ more than once.

That's the coffee buzz talking. I'll scratch all previous comments, show some due respect for UAL and in the future reverently refer to Big Blue as 'Those Flying Huckleberrys'!

Honestly, they got me home many times and I'm very grateful for that.....time for some more java!

Don't use the jumpseat for a political statement. We all need it. People need to get to/from work and there will come a time where it will save your butt. Now if they are a scab, that's a different story.

Actually, if your don't give a scab a ride you're using the JS for political purpose. It's the striking companys' pilots' job to make the scabs life miserable, not yours. So if there are 2 jumpseaters,
one scab and one UAL, the scab is first to sign in and only one seat left, guess who's going and who's not?

UAL is the only airline where I've jumped and been subjected to the 'I don't want any scabs on my plane' speech. You stand there waiting like you're under arrest for a crime you did'nt commit. You better not have a common last name or you'll get the 'When is is your birthday' and 'do you have a relative named...'

Have had both scabs and UAL in my jumpseat. They're both welcome, but both have lost a lot my respect.

There is an FOM bulletin prohibiting flight deck access for UAX pilots from overseas destinations coming into the US, but everything I've heard doesnt eliminate domestic OMC for UAX pilots.

It's all a part of the TSA being afraid of its own shadow, nothing less, nothing more.
