UAL hopes for quick contract deal with Mesa

CHICAGO, Oct 24 (Reuters) - UAL Corp.'s <UALAQ.OB> United Airlines said on Friday it hopes negotiations with Mesa Air Group Inc. <MESA.O> on regional service to Washington's Dulles Airport will be concluded in "days, not weeks".

United said it intends for talks to finish before Mesa's attempt to buy out Atlantic Coast Airlines Holding Inc. <ACAI.O> concludes.

"We think that it makes sense to have a deal with Mesa in place as soon as possible," United's Chief Financial Officer, Jake Brace, told reporters outside a bankruptcy court hearing here.

Perhaps Mesa and United management deserve each other. Too bad ACA is in the middle of it all.

I've always thought one of two outcomes: Chapter 7 or major growth of the commuters. The latter is what is happening now, but only time will tell....
