BA pilots arrested over drink claims
By Paul Marston, Transport Correspondent

Two British Airways pilots and a member of the cabin crew were arrested yesterday in Oslo on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol.

Their flight was due to leave the Norwegian capital for Heathrow in the morning but BA staff were alerted to an "alleged breach of the airlines rules about alcohol consumption before duty", a spokesman for the airline said.

Norwegian police arrested the captain, first officer and member of the cabin staff as they arrived for the 6.45am flight.

The departure was cancelled and passengers transferred to other carriers, giving some a three-hour delay.

The airline flew managers from London to Norway to suspend the trio on full pay, pending the outcome.

The crew had arrived in Oslo at 4.20 the previous afternoon. Under BA regulations, they would have been permitted "moderate" consumption of alcohol until about 9.45pm. Staff must not drink at all in the eight hours before reporting for duty.

In a statement British Airways said: "We have launched a full investigation into an alleged breach of the airline's rules on alcohol consumption . . . It is a disciplinary offence for an employee to report for work impaired by alcohol. It is deemed to be gross misconduct which can result in dismissal. We have a zero tolerance policy for any alleged abuse of our rules."

Wow, that is crazy. I wonder how they found out they were sauced. I saw the date and was like.....what? Then I remembered they flip the month/date. Full pay eh? So they get a vacation.

Makes you wonder if it will even hit the media if they are found not guilty.
