Dear Major pilots,
I am trying to make the best decision on which company to chose after my great CFI years.
I want to fly turbo props rather than jets now.
Here is my question
Does it matter for major if you had your time either on a 121 turbo prop like the beech 1900 or your time on the crj or whatever jet?
Thank you

I'd recommend reading throught some of the minimum requirements that companies require. Sometmes the just want turbine time, sometimes they was turbojet time. All in all the jet time is better, however, if you can get turbo prop PIC time sooner that turbo jet PIC time, that may play into your decision also.

Most companies only care about TURBINE PIC time....
And most companies love us Beech guys...all handflying in ********************ty weather. They know we can fly, and not just operate another 'system' in a warm fuzzy jet. Go for the most turb PIC you can get. It's about quantity, as well as quality, and Beech quality is top-notch.

Try Ameristar jet Charter,

old school raw data, jet time, 135 on-demand freight hauling across the country...anytime, anywhere, any condition...comes with complimentary survival course:D

Yeah basically, I am trying to choose between great lakes for fast upgrade in the turbo prop or Chautauqua. That’s why I need you guys to help me. I would go for turbo prop for the quality of flying but I don’t want to make the bad decision.

You'll make more money on the jet. I'm certainly not knocking to t-prop guys they are top notch pilots for sure. But don't forget to weigh the options from a financial perspective as well. You might be with whatever company you select longer than you like. All in all you can't really go wrong either way.

Nobody has hired me yet with mighty Beech 1900 PIC time. And it's not for lack of trying for a few years either.

In my new-hire class of twenty-five, twenty-four of us had Jet PIC. The one individual who only had turboprop time had an internship during college.

You'll also want to find a way to work yourself into a Line Check Airman/IOE Captain gig as soon as you qualify. Every civilian in my new-hire class had done something more than just be a line dog. Average flight time for the civilians in my class was around 4500-6500 hours.

just curious where you got hired? pm if you dont want to make it public information.

thanks

You'll be in good company - I know a few guys who are going to the Radisson on Thursday.
Everybody's got their own experience regarding TP PIC vs Jet PIC, but ex-Lakers often seem to come out ahead from what I've seen. Beech Balls does have a point, as companies seem to look pretty favorably on us humble 1900 drivers who manage to hand fly the Rockies in crappy weather on a regular basis. That's certainly not to say we're any better than those guys flying RJs into some of the pits on the East Coast.
Age plays into it - if you're a young guy, people are usually impressed by mounds of turbine PIC whether it's on the Beech or the ERJ. If you've seen a few more birthdays than some of your competition, employers are going to want to see the jet time. I'd say Lakes would be a great choice if you can handle the financial mess you'll be in, but I'm biased anyway. I've known a few Chautauqua people who are actually happy with their position and with their company. Things are a little more mellow over there, which is good, since they've usually got to wait a little longer to get their time.

NEDude: That just flat out sucks, man. Where have you been trying to get on?
