I got a call to interview with Trans States Airlines Dec. 4!! Very excited as this is my first 121 interview. I have a few questions:

1-how much is perdiem?
2-what is minimum days off for reserve/line?
3-commuter clause/commuter friendly? (I live in Nashville, TN)
4-is there still expansion going on over there? I heard seniority is by SS# in class and I will be at the bottom so I am sure hoping there will be more classes in '04 if I make it on there.

Thanks a lot for any help/advice. For everyone about to pm here you go:

1-no, I dont know anyone there, just got lucky
2-current 135 freight dog(2yrs) 3k total, 600 multi
3- got a letter in the mail about 3 weeks after latest resume update.
4-faxed, mailed resumes every 100hours of multi just like I do everyone else

>>1-how much is perdiem?

$1.40/hr
Note: no PD is paid during initial training. Pay during training works out to about $1213/month. Crash pads are available.

>>2-what is minimum days off for reserve/line?

10 days off reserve, 11 days off hard line

>>3-commuter clause/commuter friendly? (I live in Nashville, TN)

No commuter clause.

>>4-is there still expansion going on over there?

Yes, there is lots of planned expansion. 25 planes for United Express, unspecified more for American Connection, and possibly a few more J41 routes from who knows where.

>> I heard seniority is by SS# in class and I will be at the bottom so I am sure hoping there will be more classes in '04 if I make it on there.

You heard correct: last four digits of SS#. 0000 is good and 9999 is bad.

Good luck.

I would do it for free. I can't believe that you are taking a job away from another pilot who would fly for free, you greedy bastard!

I think you do get per diem during training, but only at 8 hours per day for ground and 4 hours per day in the sim- all as taxable per diem. Not much extra, but better than nothing. You will probably have to fill out the pay review sheets and turn them in to payroll in order to get the pay- especially with new people working in payroll.

another question if you dont mind:

Is there seat locks or equipment locks? Can a j41FO bid for jetFO? Can a jetFO bid for j41Captain? What about the Captain Qual. FOs, whats that all about?

Thanks again

I wish, but that's not the case. In the CBA 5.C.2 it even states "If training is conducted in the pilot's domicile, a pilot shall receive per diem while he is engaged in training, except for initial new hire training."

You can only bid to a status if it means a pay increase and there's a 12 month seat lock after training. Of course the company can waive seat locks if it suits their needs.

What about the Captain Qual. FOs, whats that all about?

This is a controversial issue. Basically, the company got a bunch of new J41 routes and they decided that the only way they would staff the planes was to hire cqfo's off the street. It saves them from having to upgrade J41 fo's only to transition them to EMB captain soon thereafter. The Contract actually allows for CQFO's but it doesn't say anything about hiring CQFO's. So the company found itself a little loophole and ALPA is grieving it. The worst part is that there's FO's who have the time to upgrade that are effectively, if only temporarily, being bypassed.

Thus far the only pilots being hired as cqfo's are furloughed major airline types. I hasten to add that newhires at TSA do not bid for equipment or base; it's assigned to them. Good luck.

is there still expansion going on over there

Future growth slated for 30 new hires each month untill June 2004. This is based on current flying and a few aircraft deliveries. TSA has the option to expand on a couple of its code shares. This would most likely increase the numbers. If Mesa takes over ACA, TSA will not expand as fast on the UEX side. Mesa has already signed a letter of agreement with UAL to continue the ACA service if they are able to take over ACA.

Good luck
