Travis Aero Club

I'm currently an instrument student out of Napa, CA, and it is starting to get expensive out there. I'm thinking about joining the Travis Aero Club to finish up my instrument and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about that place?

Your profile says civilian...are you a dependent or have a military connection?
The flying club at Travis is a USAF flying club and therefore does have some eligibility restrictions. As long as you are eligible, go for it. I don't have any personal experience with Travis, but generally, the AF flying clubs are a good deal and typically alot cheaper than most other schools. The only real downside that I can think of is that there is a bit more bureaucratic red tape as far as currency tests and other paperwork than your average FBO.

Excellent advice. Having instructed at a USAF aero club, I can say that it's pretty strict, but very affordable. Best of luck to you.

I'm planning on joining the ROTC unit at Sac State in January, and I was planning on putting my training on hold until then and save up some money.

NorCalFlyHigh,

Go to www.travisaeroclub.com. That should answer all of your questions. ROTC is not specifically mentioned, but Civil Air Patrol is. Maybe that would be an option. Give them a call.

You are not going to find any other less expensive flying at airports within any reasonable driving distance. I base at Napa but did my commercial single and multi at Livermore last year. I looked at just about everywhere from San Carlos, Hayward, Vacaville, Santa Rosa, Livermore and Napa before deciding on Livermore.

The biggest problem I have now is finding a flight instructor with 5 hours in a Duchess. I checked out one in Livermore (who is now doing something else)and am now checking out another in Napa. If I get them the 5 hours acting as safety pilot, I can use them for a future flight review.

There is also the Silverado flyers Club at Napa. I think thats the name. I believe that they have a 172 and a Mooney. You might give them a try too.
