Hey all. I just got my class date of Nov 12 with Eagle. So, that will put me training throughout Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was told by Tiffany that they are still unsure about how they are going to handle the holidays (time off, positive spacing us home etc) and that it varies from year to year. She said that they should know more in a week and to call her back.

So my question is this. In general, how do airlines handle the holidays with their trainees? Of the new job takes first priority right now; but it would be nice to be home for AT LEAST Christmas if not Thanksgiving as well.

I believe most fly you home for the holidays!! But if they don't, nows a great time to get used to missing most holidays.

Time to realize that you WILL be away on Holidays, until you are afairly senior line holder (and you went to Eagle, so you won't even be a senior FO for 5-7 years).

I spent Christmas in a hotel drinking MadDog one year. Ahhh the yule tide memories.....

Congrats on the class....get used to missing the holidays and disappointing loved ones. Just kidding.

No you're not....

At ASA when I upgraded (back in 2002), I finished the sim at 4am on Christmas eve and was back in sim on the evening of the 26th. Got to love the 9pm-5am shift!
Cheers- rum

I am well aware that I won't be around for the holidays for quite some time. Actually, I started applying later than anticipated, so I had already expected and planned for last years holidays to be my last. So, this isn't coming as too much of a shock or dissapointment. It would still be nice to be around if possible though.

I got the tentative holiday schedule today and I certainly can't say that I'm complaining. I WILL be gone for sure on Thanksgiving (in fact it's a normal class day); but, supposedly they're flying us home positive space on Dec. 21st and fly us back on the 26th...only to fly us BACK home on the 28th and bring us back on Jan 2nd. 10 days off total for the holidays isn't that bad if you ask me.

That's the last time the airline will ever positive space you.

Maybe. Eagle sent me home positive space when my grandfather died...granted, someone had to die.

Actually it's kind of strange that you mention that. I'm in the same situation. Things are looking better than they were; but my grandfather is still very ill. His heart is working at about 25% capacity and dr's are giving him about six months at best. Although a week ago that was the VERY best case scenario; but, odds were that he would be gone much sooner.

I started a post inquiring how airlines may handle that situation if something such as a death of a family member occurs during training. Of course I was asking about REGIONAL AIRLINES...the reason I put that all in capitals is that I'm pretty irritated because I was asking a serious question about REGIONAL AIRLINE TRAINING and the mods moved it to another board that hardly ever gets visited and therefore I didn't recieve too many responses. I've had a few of my threads that were "regional relevant" moved. Oh well. My rant is over....
