Tol Air

Can anybody tell me anything about this company?
I had talked to the Chief Pilot a few years back on the phone about working there. Nice guy, but when he told me what the job pays, he actually started laughing, because the pay is literally a joke, and to top it off you gonna work your ass off. That was in 2002 so I dont know if things have changed, im sure they haven't though.

I would love to work there and fly the 3. That is one of my favorite airplanes and I know they won't be around to much longer.

Pay Rate for Tol-Air

Does anybody know any specifics about Tol-Air. Things like exact pay, benefits, flying times, paying for initial type rating, etc. I am a low time pilot that is desperate to get just about anything to get my foot in the door of the regionals or majors.

Tolair is hiring right now. They just lost five pilots. I got a call on friday to start dc3 class on monday. I can't accept right now. When I called Tolair on Saturday I spoke to the cp/president. He offered me a fo position on the dc3. 800. a month. When I told him about my flt time he offered me a c402 captain position, 1700. a month.

Training is not paid (2 weeks)
They do have jump priv. once you are an employee.

So now would be the time to apply if you want to work there...

Mind sharing what kind of hours you have? A large amount of tailwheel maybe??

Hours

Thanks for the all the info you sent. I wishi I could actually accept the job right now but I am about to graduate in Dec. and then be able to go. Right now I am right under 270TT and none of it is tailwheel. I just heard a guy get hired that had only 320TT and he just got there Monday 10/25/04 and start his training.

I flew there fo 1 yr and that was 1 yr to much, it is a good place for low timers to get up to 1200 and GO, I had a lot of engine faliures, I crashed in a dc-3 , the 402 was ok no problem with that one but it is not the best place to work, $$$ suxs , no medical cover I was supossed to get my 3 rating and 4 people were type first with less hrs than me.

you guys know that a couple of months ago one of there cv340 crashed and they never found the capt, the F/O lived!!!
just to let you know !!!

let me see...I thought they didnt' have 340's. At least when I was there they didn't. but in six months or so when I was there the company lost a be-18 (pilot never recovered) and one convair. not to mention another convair that taxied into a fedex feeder c208 and took that out. The most interesting one was when they put two new engines on one convair and hooked up the hydraulic lines backwards and when they started the engines the gear collapsed on the ramp.

good luck to you....

lear..
I guess you are another pirate of the caribbean!!!
more has happened, a dc-3 ground lopped into a sa227 from merlin airways, a lot of emergencies, a gear up landing , acutally 2 gear up landings, pilots forgot to put them down, engine falirues by the dozen.... everything to make your day a great one!!!!

see ya

I think that the best was when one of the captains at TolAir was in the three and told his F/O as they were cleared for T.O. "I have serious doubts about this takeoff................set T.O power" or when the tailwheel fell off on take off and was laying in the middle of runway 8 in SJU. It wasn't all bad, I did build some time when other places weren't hiring. I was just lucky to leave in one piece and no violations.

Quote from a mechanic that I will never forget. : "you get good experience here at TOL AIR with all the emergencies and all" I just shrug my shoulders.

take care

$800.00 a month still..?

Jeez, no progress at all.

I flew DC-3 freight out of SJU 24 years ago, and the pay was $800.00 per month then.
Did not have any emergencies however, just luck I guess.

Is Four Star still around and kicking?

Got typed and flew left seat on the 3 for Aero Virgin Island in 86.
One of the big hurricanes blew 'em away, airlplanes and all.
Then there was Virgin Island International Airways, also a 3 operator.
And Southern Flyer..Hmm all gone I guess.

Good luck on the 3, it was a great airplane to fly...Once ya learn to start and taxi the thing, the flying part was easy...
