Not to bring netjetwife out of the cracks, but...

I was given a pretty big tip today and split it with my copilot. He gave me the weirdest look and said no one had ever shared with him before.

Captains, do you share your tips with your copilots? And copilots, does your captain share with you? What is typical?

Shouldn't be any question.....do unto others......

I got a tip the other day, when the passenger was getting off the airplane and said to me "Next time try to flare sooner"

I share everything with my copilot and flight attendant. Tips, catering, my room...

I gave a few bucks to the hangar cleaner kids when I was flying single pilot, and the captains I'm flying with now share the tips with me. Which is a rarity

ALWAYS. The best tip we ever got was $400.00 for the 2 of us. I left $200 bucks on my F.O's seat. He handed me $100.00 assuming that I had not split it yet. It was very tough to hand it back :)

I would be curious to see if there is an A-hole out there who does not split tips.

We must suck, cause we never get tips.

Only thing I usually here is after a hard landing (whether its me or not), the guys always ask me directly: "Was that YOUR landing?"

While working at a well known repair station, the crew chief on a particular aircraft was given a large tip and he inturn had his wife buy loafs of bread, mayo, and lunch meat. He had her make about 50 sandwiches and gave then out to the rest of the crew....can you believe that?

cheap bastage

I believe I ate off of the roach coach that day, just in spite

BINGO! How could you not, especially knowing that many FO's aren't even making a living wage? Well, maybe there's a chance you aren't either but still. I once worked for a place that frowned upon the whole idea of taking tips and would have you return it if they found out. I saw it differently and told the people working under me that you should politely decline the tip and if they insist (they always do) to graciously accept it. Never told them to share the wealth though... I think the rep they'd soon have around the hangar if they didn't would take care of that issue. Not that I care but we didn't see tips that often. You'd see others, limo drivers for example, being tipped but not necessarily us. I always assumed this was mostly because of public perception... because we're all making a minimum of $100k, right?!

I doubt it... if they're low enough not to split tips they're probably also low enough to not admit it!
