Man, it sure is hard to even talk to the right people in corporate or charter flying for a job! Been to A LOT of places and have probably spoken face to face with 2 people. Try again the next day, nothing. Try again next week, nothing. The couple people that I have talked to told me to call them back the next day and then their not "in the office". It's like they're being protected. I even talked to a chief pilot who said "we need you, I'm really busy right now, but can you call me on Monday for a meeting". Called on Monday and he is on vacation for two weeks!

I guess times are a lot tougher than I thought!

Remember there are a lot of pilots out of work... From your profile it looks to me like you don't have any Corporate experience whatsoever... If that is the case, typically they will hire someone with a Corporate background over someone with no Corporate background...

Don't give up... it is often when it seems darkest that something drops in your lap...

Good Luck!

Just keep your head up and a positive attitude. Eventually something will fall into place. Biggest advise though is be mobile, somewhere on this PLANET someone is looking for a pilot, it's just probably not in your home town.

And honestly there are a lot of pilots around right now, just about every day someone faxes me a resume, emails me, or is"hanging out at the FBO". And we're not even hiring, last time we had an opening I had over 400 resumes come in and that was with 1000 turbine PIC requirement, before 9/11!!!!!

Just An Idea

Talked to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago and he said Swift in PHX is looking for pilots. I guess their X's are now working with Flight Options. Looking for X and Ultra crews. Don't know if it's still current, but maybe worth a try.

Best of luck.

Falcon Captain, I hope your right, because this is the worst I've seen this industry in 16 years. I'm hoping to get a "visual cue" soon. Take care :)

I hope I am right too... We need to get things on the upswing again...

Good luck to all those looking for work!

There are jobs out there. Do not give up.

I was furloughed last fall. I waited 6 months before I even started applying. It took awile but I started getting interviews.

I was offered jobs at two regionals. I declined because I decided to focus on corporate flying.

I took advantage of WIA money and got a Citation type rating. I had part time work in two weeks and two full time job offers in less than two months. I was willing to move and made it clear I had no airline asperations. I also listened to the people on this board, especially GVflyer, Falcon Capt and some others.

I took one of the offers, got an apartment and drove home on the weekends.

I took some advise from GVflyer and I start my new job Monday. I hope it is a career position.

Does it pay like the airline? NO. And it never will. But, I still look at my furlough as an oppertunity. I realized that money is not the most important thing. I hated flying nights. I didn't like the fact that we were always pressured to take airplanes that were broke. Always fighting to get paid for what you had already earned. Before flying corporate, I never felt any appreciation from my employers. I was a necessary evil to them.

I really enjoy the corporate lifestyle. It is 180 degrees different from the airline culture.

The point to my rambling? DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!!!!
Be flexible and work at finding work. I spent a minimum of 2 hours a day searching and networking. It paid off. We have seen the bottom and it's just going to get better.

Thats my two cents. Good luck.

DC8Driver...

Congrats on the new job, it is great to hear stories like this... lets other know there is hope, even when times seem so bleak!

Good luck and fly safe! Enjoy Corporate flying, it can be very rewarding!

I'll second the hope story. I've been furloughed from a major for just over a year now, and just when I thought nothing was going to come my way, I get 3 phone calls for interviews within a weeks time, and a 4th interview sometime in the future. I happened to take the first job offered to me because it is what I wanted. Keep plugging away and eventually you will get a break. I never thought I would get one call, and I end up getting 4. If you want it bad enough, you will get something.

DC8driver is right on. It takes persistance, time and most importantly networking. Good luck to those still looking!!

Update your profile

kwb13,

Don't forget that many pilots who may be in a position to help you also visit this message board. A complete profile may help you to attract some attention. Remeber... right place, right time.

I've always found that most CP's / DO's are more than willing to talk as long as you are not too intrusive. Just be open, honest, and to the point. Many management pilots are extremely busy and appreciate these traits.

Personally, I always take as much time as I can helping out when someone calls or walks in looking for work. The feeling of being unemployed is terrifying and almost all of us can relate to these individuals and their predicaments.

There is one important thing you have to do. Remember how you are feeling right now and, in the future, do your best to help someone else when you are in a position to do so... regardless of how you are being treated now.

Good luck,
