So Parker thinks the industry is going to go into a "bust" period...

http://blogs.usatoday.com/sky/

This is just the latest. With the FAA considering limiting LGA, airspace being out of control crowded, pricing uncontrollable... is it time to think about bringing back the big R? Discuss...

Deregulation is what hurt our industry, not the regionals. The regionals are just another part of the puzzle that sprouted out of deregulation and greed.

The regionals would still be around with Regulation. Your job would actually be much more secure. Your pay would be higher. You work schedule would be better. The industry would be more stable. The only airline to not make it after dereg. would be Mesa.

Re-regulation is near impossible at this point. Far too many voters depend on cheap airfare. The middle class can't pay their bills now. Doubling the price of a ticket would pull demand down to about half, maybe more. Just business fliers, like the good old days would be left.

Unfortunately, the only thing that would be better in regulation would be employee wages. And you know they don't care about how much you make, so status quo.

Pilots, being largely conservative Republicans, really go against their "less gov't" and "free market" beliefs when it comes to regulation.

Aren't most of us "middle class"? Especially regional pilots?

People will still fly. Especially with gas prices the way they are. The group that has flown lately with the introduction of Skybus and such would be lost, but so what?

Would be nice if the gubmint would keep some of these new competitors who come in with dirt cheap leases, bottom of scale pay rates and low wages from coming in just to be a thorn in the side of the mainline carriers.

It's interesting that you say that because many of the pilots I talk to have conserative beliefs, but are supporting Obama. I know there is no ideology in politics anymore - it's just a war between special interests, but there isn't going to be much support in regulating the airlines unless we litter the country with smoking holes.
