I am a newly certified Commercial Pilot. I got an e-mail today from a company that offers time building. I don't know how they got my name and e-mail address. They are offering 500 FO hours in a Lockheed L1010 with a type rating for $35K, and it's actual time and not just sim time. I have never heard of this. It works out to be $70/hour in a jet. Like I said I have never heard of something like this, and of course with anything that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Does anyone have anything positive or negative to say about something like this?

Well, if you get the job, let me know. I don't think I'd want to be on that L-1011 with some 250 hr. kid who paid $35K to "build time" up front.

That entire situation just screams the word "scam." I'd stay away, or at the very least do some serious research before paying out any cash.

Amish, you seem a little hostile. Prince, I think it sounds like a scam too, thanks. Mr Wu, I did a search on both of those key words and didn't find anything about outcomes, just website of some different air carrier companies?? Thanks for the comments though. Like I said, I've never heard of this before and was just curious about it.

Here's a thought: Use the 35,000 to earn your CFI and CFII. Instruct for about 500 hours or until you get about 1200 total time. Use the remaining money to rent a twin or get your MEI and obtain about 100 ME. With those times, apply for a part 135 carrier like Airnet. Then work your way up the ladder. You'll feel better about your piloting skills and people will tend to respect the manner in which you "came up the ranks".

500 SIC turbine won't do you much good with a commercial certificate.

Actually stepclimb, I start CFI school next week with the school I am going to. I will have my CFI, CFII, and MEI by the end of the month. I already have 200ME, and 300TT. I do plan on instructing, and already have a job offer to do so. So I'm not looking for the easy way out, I plan on "earning" my position with the airlines just like everyone else.

Excellent. I think you will find your time spent as an IP to be the time when you learn the most about flying. I'm guessing that you did your private single engine, then Instrument/Commercial in the twin?
