hello all-

does anyone know of any website that tells what activities there are near airports you might fly to. i'm looking for general ideas about what's in the area. the $100 is good eating establishments. i'm looking for a bit more information. thoughts?

such as: when flying into wakefield in VA, AKQ, use the phone in the probably empty FBO to dial the number on the wall for the Virginian Dinner. it's about a mile up the road. they will send someone to come pick you up for a great burger. . . i think their steak is good to. other than that there's nothing to do in that town.

Try Airnav.com
i currently use airnav. i was hoping there was somethnig that would tell a little more about the areas. i guess a gave a poor example being that the virginian diner is listed there.

how about the not-so-crowded beaches and great seafood resteraunts outside of MQI and the 2 hour limit on the courtesy cars.

airnav.com has a very limited amount of this information.

AOPA's airport directory may be of some assistance if you are an AOPA member.

haven't been an aopa member in a very long time, but didn't they have a publication out every year, like a nation-wide a/fd type thing, that included not just airport info, but also local sites?

Yes. I was referring more to the online service, but they also give you a print edition.

There is also what they call eDirectory, which is essentially the same thing, except you can download it to your computer and update it as you feel necessary. Furthermore, you can sync it with a PDA and have the information on the go.

All-in-all, pretty handy for what it is...

:D

thank you all for your responses

pilotman2105-

AOPA comes through again. i've downloaded and printed several kneeboard formated airport diagrams from their site, but never thought to click on those other choises. thank you for pointing them out. i'm now using the FBO/Facility Information and Member Comments. pretty much exactly what i was looking for in addition to the pilotwait site B)

instead of starting a new thread i'll ask here since it's kind of the same subject: who gets tiped? the fuel guy? the people at the desk that loan me the courtesy car? i'm new to the flying in game. being a generous tipper, i don't want to give a bad impression.
