My friend and I was looking at a picture of the aircraft he flew from Atlanta to Brussels the other day. We both asked ourselves what are the triangle "things" under each wing. They have either 2 or 3. If someone could tell me what they are and what is their purpose, would be great. I have always wondered this but finally came around to post this on here to find out. Here is a link to a picture that shows what I am talking about. Thanks, James

I don't know if you are kidding or not! But if you are for real they are called canoe's. It is where the flap tracks and screws are located.

hope this helps

Those are the fairings (aerodynamic sleeves) that the tracks and jackscrews ride in that raise and lower the flaps.

I don't think he's kidding. I didn't know either and have flown millions of miles as a passenger usually occupying the seat right by the wing. I never even thought about it.

Good question.

I couldn't access the link you provided, but if the triangles are pink, it means the owners of the airplane you are flying in are gay.

sorry to say but i didn't know what they are. I figured they had something to do with the flap system but I never took 737 or any big aircraft ground school. Thanks everyone that has educated me. I will always remember that!!

How about those yellow things on the outboard leading edge towards the wingtips on EMBs?

Wankel

How about those yellow things on the outboard leading edge towards the wingtips on EMBs?

The official term is "Yellow Thingies" and if you have to ask, you'll never know!!

ok. these people who have answered previously are wrong. the answers they gave are the canned answers we are trained to give. but i'm going to blow the top off of this conspiracy!

those things are the nozzles for the chemtrail spraying operations.

On the Douglass airplanes, they call them "VORTILONS". It is supposed to be short for 'vortex generating pylons'. They inhibit spanwise airflow at high angles of attack, thereby increasing desirable stall characteristics. I'm not sure, but I don't think there is anything in them on the -9. The flap and slat actuators are in seperate fairings on the trailing edge.

"VORTILONS"

I thought that was Voltron's little brother.
