Woman passes airport security with stun gun, knife
Sunday, January 25, 2004 Posted: 2:03 PM EST (1903 GMT)

DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A woman passed through security screening at New York's LaGuardia Airport with a stun gun and knife in her purse -- but later discovered the mistake herself and alerted authorities.

The woman realized she was carrying the items after a short layover in Detroit and on her way to Denver.

"She immediately went, 'Oh, my God, I'm not supposed to have these here,' and called the flight attendant over," said Spirit Airlines spokeswoman Laura Bennett.

The pilot alerted Denver International Airport; police met the plane at the gate and took the woman into custody for questioning. She was released without charges.

"She did the right thing by giving up the items voluntarily, and she was never malicious," Bennett said. "We never considered her a threat."

Transportation Security Administration officials had no comment on the security slip. TSA official Darrin Kayser said the agency would investigate.

"It was an honest but odd mistake," Bennett said. "But it's true that people often don't think about what's in their luggage."

Wonder if these tsa guys are gonna get canned for this one? They should be for sure though cause isnt it thier only job to keep stuff like that out of the sterile area oh yeah thats right they are only there to sniff out drunk pilots I guess.

I passed through security once WITHOUT setting off the metal detector and the TSA agent still pulled me aside to wand me and pat me down. Yes, I was in uniform. I hate those ***CENSORED***!!!

Good question

You gotta remember these are the same people that do not know how to put on their seatbelt and wait at the cockpit door for someone to come out of the "bathroom". She probably freaked and thought she was gonna get tackled by the roving knife police.

I have to deal with the LGA "shoe police" and I am shocked that this could have happened to these fine examples of our costly federal security.

When this " Political correct" attitude regarding TSA will end up? They are good for nothing, worthless. They prove their incompetence all the time. All they are good at is just to annoy, harass innocent people, and try motivating their huge salaries that way.

How many pilots with 10 years background check/valid ID get pulled on the side all the time? ...or innocent people?
They don't make the public feel safely. They annoy the public. They are bad for business. Industry is losing money because of them. People getting tired of their attitude and inutile high costly presence. Let's do not talk about the stress they create to the crews just before getting in the cockpit.

Personal I believe after 09/11 the best defense against terrorism is the passengers and us - the crews.

So for how long do we still have to play Political Correctness?
