I commuted to work on my own airline today. I'm so embarrassed that I won't name the airline. I won't even name the city pairs because of incrimination. I was in uniform, so the embarrassment was amplified by stares from passengers.

Here's what happened. Every PA announcement was made in DJ style. Not like in the ordinary radio DJ announcement, but that annoying, "Drag racing Saturday night. Beeeee theeeeeere!" type of tone. Maybe some of you are too young to remember that, but it was an annoying red-neck sounding radio commercial.

Every passenger on board turned and looked at me with that, "What kind of idiot is this?" kind of look. Some shook their heads an rolled their eyes, but I'm certain that I was lumped into the idiot category just for being a part of that airline.

Ladies and Gents, the travelling public is not impressed with you trying to sound cool on the PA. In fact, most people would prefer short, informative no-nonsense anouncements that don't interfere with their rest, work, or whatever. Especially the business traveler. In the past, I've overheard one businessman say, "I wish he'd shut the hell up" when the announcement got a little lenghthy.

Just some food for thought. I'm glad there were no pilots from another company on board. At least I may never see the passengers again.

:o

I think I was riding in the back with that same Pinnacle FO up front!

His before takeoff announcement lasted nearly two minutes WHILE we taxied to the runway. He was trying to sound cool but it wasn't happening. Not very impressive or professional. He's lucky the FAA wasn't riding that day.

GCD,

I don't mean to imply that you are with Pinnacle. That was just an experience I had on an airline that seemed similar to yours.

Fly

That is why I don't fly SWA !! !! !! - every flight is like a "comic show" - get's old real fast.

Can't be SWA, though, right? GCD said it was on his carrier and he's not rated in the 737. Who can it be?

ALG at one time had an FO who liked to be very "descriptive"......he would inform pax of the intensity of a nearby Tstorm, the minimum required distance to be, and what could happen if the aircraft got too close. He's not at ALG anymore (needless to say).

Probably the same guy.....people never learn.

How did Dr. Cox say at one time...."You can't come to work drunk....you're not airline pilots!!"

Back in the day there was an Eastern captain, a man who liked to use big words, who told his passengers thanks to the miracle of modern weather radar, they'd easily be able to "circumcise" all the thunderstorms.

Now there's something they don't teach in ground school.

I don't know about the rest of you, but my thunderstorm was circumcised at a very young age.

That is my fav show and I don't think I laughed ever so hard at one of Dr Coxs one liners.....classic! :D

Even though SWA is supposed to be famous for all the antics, it's few & far between when I actually get them on a flight these days.....what a bummer!
