I commuted to work on my own airline today. I'm so embarrassed that I won't name the airline. I won't even name the city pairs because of incrimination. I was in uniform, so the embarrassment was amplified by stares from passengers.
Here's what happened. Every PA announcement was made in DJ style. Not like in the ordinary radio DJ announcement, but that annoying, "Drag racing Saturday night. Beeeee theeeeeere!" type of tone. Maybe some of you are too young to remember that, but it was an annoying red-neck sounding radio commercial.
Every passenger on board turned and looked at me with that, "What kind of idiot is this?" kind of look. Some shook their heads an rolled their eyes, but I'm certain that I was lumped into the idiot category just for being a part of that airline.
Ladies and Gents, the travelling public is not impressed with you trying to sound cool on the PA. In fact, most people would prefer short, informative no-nonsense anouncements that don't interfere with their rest, work, or whatever. Especially the business traveler. In the past, I've overheard one businessman say, "I wish he'd shut the hell up" when the announcement got a little lenghthy.
Just some food for thought. I'm glad there were no pilots from another company on board. At least I may never see the passengers again.
