Okay, I've decided that I'm going to get back into flying while I wait for the FAA to get their act together once I'm done with this ATC-CTI school in May. I've been waiting tables for the past 6 months, and I can't stand another second of it. It's been a year since I last flew, and I honestly miss it. I need to get back in it, and get away from this hellish restaurant.

So, I have 2-3 months to get myself back up to speed. I need to get my flying proficiency back, which shouldn't be hard. However, getting my knowledge level up to spec again is going to be tough. I've been too far removed for so long, that it's going to take a while to get back to where I was.

So, my question is: Where do I start? Pick up the PHAK and start reading, or should I have a more definite plan? I'm aware that this is a pretty vague question, but I'm honestly at a loss at where to start. There's so much for me to brush up on.

Depends on what knowledge you are deficient in... PHAK would be a good place to start for general info (aerodynamics, systems, etc). I would imagine that you should still be up to speed on procedures and regs if you are going through ATC school, no?

How about heading out to the airport for some one on one time with another CFI. Get a BFR done, and run through some of the required knowledge as dictated by the various PTSes and FAR pt 61.

This is what I did...along with an IPC. I was out of the game for 7 years so a few months shouldn't be too bad for you.

not yet, i dont want it to deter me from eating out

Nah, I don't think it will do that - but it'll definitely make you think twice before F'n with the people who handle your food.
