Hey guys:

We're looking at taking a C560 into TEX during the film festival and was wondering, from some of you TEX veterans, what the story is during that weekend. Is ramp space at a premium? I am assuming they are under E-STMP during that weekend with the amount of traffic in there. Will we be able to get a slot or are they all gobbled up by the dispatchers within five mintues? We did MTJ last year instead of TEX but the Pax really want to do TEX this year. Whats the hotel situation? Will we still be able to get rooms in TEX yet or are we going to be driving to Montrose? Any input appreciated fellas. Educate me.

If I were you, I'd be much less concerned with E-STMP at TEX than with Balanced Field Length for your departure. Remember, an ISA temp at Telluride is 28 degrees farenheit! With a 9078ft field elevation and only 8000ft of runway (please correct me if I've forgotten the runway length), you are talking about a pretty hairy takeoff roll over some awful rough country. I instructed out of MTJ back in the late nineties, and I always loved flying in and out of Ta-hell-ya-ride! Different story doing it in a 150HP C172, but what an awsome sight flying out of there!

Also,

If for some reason the wx is IFR at your departure time, you may not be able to to meet the climb gradient if you are heavy. Do some calculating for your worst case before you go in and stay at TEX. MTJ may be a better option after all. Just be careful.

No problem - I'm sitting in TEX right now, bored out of my mind. The boss got a place up here for a month, so we've been going in & out of here more than I care to.

And yes, we also have to hop over to MTJ to get gas in order to go any distance - as it is way to hot during the day to put on any here.

Just charge the bar tab to the boss! Hehe. I haven't been there since early '99 and I do miss it. Bet its changed alot since then.

Maybe you should try renting a Jeep and go across the Black Bear Canyon Road? That should help ease your boredom... and add a little pucker factor too!
