I tried the Senheizer a few months back and it just didn't fit right so I sent it back to Uncle Marv Golden. I had a 750 but it was about 12 years old and just died.
It will sound similar to you wearing the 750's and ear plugs. The volume settings I use on the CRJ are about the 50-60% range.
You need the hot mic and some people do not like that..
I bought an Airman 850 recently to use in the CRJ, and I haven't had to keep the hot mic on to enable the active noise reduction to work. I love the thing, I have no complaints.
I use a 750 with Earplugs. I keep the hotmike on and have heard no complaints. You must adjust the gain (micro screw in the left earpiece) and use the foam bubble mike cushion that comes with it.
I always ask my F/O's and they said unlike others with lightweights (even some with 750's) , that mine sounds fine in hot mike.
For those of you that use the Sennheiser, how do you turn the gain down on those things... I have to keep my hot mike off constantly because of the loud hiss that increases with our airspeed in the ERJ. Its very annoying to both me and the person I'm flying with.
I tried the Sennheisers and hated them. They hurt my ears even when I don't have my sunglasses on. The batteries don't even last long enough for a four day trip. I was going to buy the 750s until I saw the ad for the 850s. I spent the extra money and I got to tell you that I LOVE the 850s. My FOs that wear the 750 have to keep the volume control set to high because all the ambient noise that filters around the earpiece. The 850 has a better "earcup" piece along with the ANR. When I set the volume control, I actually use the same volume setting as I did when wearing David Clarkes. I strongly recommend the 850 if you fly the RJ
