Hey guys and gals, I realize there are some pretty deep threads on this forum. Haveing gone to class with Steve at Colgan, and flown with Jesse. My deepest thoughts go out to their families.

On a lighter note I was curious if anyone has used the Telex 5x5 Pro III in the CRJ, or ERJ i suppose... Im looking at a couple of models on ebay. But my main concern is about the one or two jack models. The one jack model is floating around from when the good old boys were snagging them out of the 727 and what not. I hear there is an adapter that you can get to plug the one jack into, making it usable in todays CRJ.

Just looking for some insight from anyone who has used them or knows about them. any info or story would be great to shed some light on the subject.

Info on where to get the custom earmolds would be great too
Thanks All!!

Only problem with the 5x5 is that positioning the microphone can be very critical. It's a noise cancelling design that depends on your mouth being exactly where it expects it to be. The Plantronics just uses a non-noise-canceling sound tube to route the sound to the mic, so it's much less critical, but of course a little noisier. Never had a complaint from ATC about the sound quality or noise level of either one.

BTW, if you're the F/O a poorly maintained aircraft with a flakey intercom, you'll find an astounding number of captains who will immediately tell you that the problem lies in the fact that your (Telex/Plantronics/pick one) doesn't match their far superior (Plantronics/Telex/pick one), thereby demonstrating their total ignorance of the operating principles of audio isolation amplifier circuitry.

I use the 5x5 III in a CRJ with custom earmold and love them. Very comfortable. I hear that the CRJ is much quieter up front than the ERJ though, maybe someone who's flown both can comment? Anyway, here is my reply to another thread on the subject:

Ditto for me, used it for over 4 years and no problems.

FO4HIRE,

If your the guy I am thinking about I would not even sell you the shirt off my back if you were freezing to death!

Chosen One, this young grasshopper is much appreciated. Which model did you get off of westone.com. Still a little hessitant about the one or two plug. I should just bite the bullet and do it, worse case i can find some sucker to buy it off eBay just as i might.

As for this jetman...if its who i think it is, shouldnt you be home cooking dinner, before mama gets mad...btw does she know your on the computer!!

It was model number 19. I thought it would be weird only listening on one side too, but I adapted easily. No missed radio calls yet (or at least, no more than I normally would <grin>).
