That looks challenging enough in good weather. Must be even worse in bad weather although you would expect those TACA pilots to anticipate challenges there. Yikes!

They landed at 1545z. They needed 3nm to fly the approach and a 2300 ft ceiling to see the runway.

Surprise nah not TGU? Should have seen the military C-130 (1996 or so) that tried the approach 2 times (vfr) too fast and high third time went off the end and hit a bridge/road.
 
been in there multiple times, one at night, myself.

Flew in there today, We picked up the Copilot from the accident and took him to Miami for surgery. He was really messed up, but awake and alert...... I guess the Captain and 5 others werent as lucky. Bless them all!!
 
been in there with the 727 in my Champion days,toughest airport ever !
