I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. August 1st the NMB sent a letter to the IBT deny the requested release of the Republic pilots. Probably because the Teamsters hadn't notified their members yet.

Please, I can't believe you fell for Craig Moffett's BS. He's got the Midwest Pilots' best interests in mind. I really feel bad for you guys. You deserve better.

What does this have to do with the former YX pilots, exclusively? 5 years with no contract and the company stalling/not negotiating at every turn and somehow the NMB found cause to deny the pilot group their only remaining leverage. Here's to another 5 years without a contract (or raise). When I heard the news I swear I could hear the champagne corks popping 200 miles away in Indianapolis.

Craig has his mind focused on getting all he can for the Midwest pilots. I firmly believe he couldn't give two ********************s about the native Republic guys/gals, or the Frontier pilots except to tell them to get out of the Airbuses so they can get in. Additionally, I don't think he's very good at what he supposedly does. I really feel badly for you guys. You deserve better, way better.

A strike is a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG way off......now what? Seems the reverand is a Rope-a-Dope fan.....Remember, JetBlue or better! and FULL RETRO to the amendable date...Good luck, with that NC you'll need it....

The NMB is unlikely to release Republic, they account for too much legacy flying and it would create an inconvenience for the public. The voting public does not want to be inconvenienced by airline strikes and the NMB (federal government) will make sure that they are not. Airline pilots and union members in general account for such a small percentage of voters today that labor has lost it's clout. The sole purpose of the RLA as it exists today is to prevent work stoppages, I was surprised when they released Spirit but Spirit was small and not an essential part of a larger network so there was very little ripple effect. Whatever happens in the future there sure won't be any work stoppages allowed this close to an election.

So what did the IBT NC Brain Trust and Strategery say about this grave injustice? Was it FAPA's fault? Was it LOA 67? Solar Flare activity? Harmonic Convergence? Maybe ELECTED and not APPOINTED leadership maybe in order? Wow, I can see why FAPA was wrong for so long...BTW What happened to the drunk Hotel Committee guy?

I disagree that Republic can't get released. The NMB will release them when it's clear to the Board that a release will likely lead to a deal. Of course, they won't do it when an election is approaching. The IBT made a boneheaded move in even asking for it prior to the election.

You guys used to blame Bush for the "lousy bought-n-paid-for" NMB. Whose fault is it now?

No one's "fault." Expecting to be allowed to strike right before a presidential election is just idiocy. Wait until after the election, then make your request. If your positions at the bargaining table are reasonable, and management isn't bargaining in good faith, then you'll get your release. That's the difference between the Bush NMB and any other NMB.

IDK, Mesaba was released to strike during President Bush's term. Spirit was released (and went through with it) during President Obama's term.

Maybe if the pilots would get their act together, get involved, and stop cutting each other's throats we wouldn't need scapegoats (even when facts point the other way). However, pilot unity is a myth.

More proof that the Railway Labor Act is management's wet dream. Indentured servitude and most pilots aren't smart enough to figure it out.

That plus the whole concept of "pilot unity" is a complete farce. I've yet to see senior members of a seniority list that won't sell out the guys at the bottom for 5 more hours of block time.

Good luck, Repubs. You're gonna need it.

.....people are running for the exits at Republic......Time for a new union

As the majors start to hire, the angriest folks will leave and the angriest FO's will upgrade. Life improves for many and the unhappiness returns to fester underground.

Neither party likes airline strikes because they are unpopular with the voting public. Unions don't have the political clout they once had with union membership at such low levels. Politicians don't need to cater to unions anymore, being supportive of unions may cost them more votes than they gain. let's face it, even with average working people today "union" has increasingly become a dirty word. Maybe someday the pendulum will swing back the other way and unions will rise again but for now they are on the decline and politicians bend with the wind.

If Republic was not tied to large, legacy airlines they might get released but as it stands now they are too woven into the overall system to be allowed to stop operating. I may be wrong but I will believe it when I see it. The government has nothing to lose by just having mediation last forever, nobody has to make a politically unpopular decision that way so nobody can get blamed. Why take the risk of inconveniencing the voting public when it might blow back on you if you don't have to? If you are a politician in today's political climate that's a no-brainer.
