Here's a more relevant question: What's the difference between Splinters and the Teamsters?

Answer: About $90K a month. :eek: Any well informed NJA pilot can confirm that, but don't ask an 1108 elected leader because IBT rules forbid them to talk about something many in the group think they'd like to see...

Really I was just tellin' a joke. I'm a proud 1108 Teamster and I thought it was funny. You should hear me tell it. I got it down so it's funny!
 
Nomore, I don't doubt that you were telling a joke. It just bothers me is that the Teamsters organization is so often the butt of jokes. Don't you find that somewhat embarrassing?

I'm very proud of 1108's accomplishments, but I attribute that to the pilots in the Local--only. I realize that the pilot group isn't an in-house union, but I've always thought of them that way and I'd like them to get the credit their record deserves-- not the disparaging remarks that usually follow the name Teamsters. :(
 
Bogart, I'm normally not a selfish person at all; however, I freely admit that I'm not concerned for the IBT. I only care because their reputation reflects poorly--and unfairly--on 1108. That said, I do have sympathy for any other Locals who share this problem. It's frustrating to see such hard-working, dedicated volunteers not get the credit they deserve because their record is overshadowed by the notoriety of a group they are loosely tied to. The situation is getting very old....

Nomore, please feel free to tell me a different joke...:)

You contribute nothing to the forums, except to chime in once, maybe twice a month to say how "ELITE" your company is or to bash NJ/Union Pilots when able. While I'm not one of them (at this time), you could never hold your hand to God and swear that 1108 has done nothing for the advancement of the fractional industry. If you think so, then you live in a very small, delusional world. You, kid, are nothing more than a jealous little punk who I would enjoy seeing in a dark parking lot at the FBO.

I didn't come up with that, I'm not clever enough, but I think it's funny as hell. Maybe we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. We all have a fun job. We all choose to do it despite the obvious sacrificies, and we have all gotten here, at some level, despite the many who didn't make it. We're lucky! It's a sunny day. Bogart, what makes you say that PP can't get a job at a fractional? He only said he's not an 1108 pilot. Maybe he's at another frac company?

PilotPat, I wasn't interested in the dark parking lot...:eek: but I do appreciate that you gave credit to 1108 for their efforts to raise the bar in the industry. During their contract battle that was often listed as one of the goals, and I know that some of the NJ pilots (and this wife) hope that the IBB proposal will have a ripple effect.

Doh....:D I think the Options group, especially, will appreciate that one.

Maybe I should have told them both together. And I tell you as a flops pilot there are times when I wish we could be MORE like the Teamsters of old.

The joke was funny. I can just hear nomore’s faux Bronx accent while he’s telling it.

The joke was dated however. The 2007 version goes like this.

How many teamsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?

Answer: 50% plus 1
 
Funny thing Bugeye, I just talked to Derinda the other day to let her know I would not be taking the interview since I got a new gig on a Part 91 Gulfstream. She said she'd hold my app in queue 'til 9/08 since I'd make a good fit with the company. As for not being able to get a job at a frac...well, NJA is the only one I'd even consider going to. And I don't re-edit my posts after thinking of something new, kid. What would be on your chin is my f'ng boot, son.

NJW - you gave me a good laugh about the parking lot, but I know you're married and I am, as well. And credit is due to those who fought for what they have, and still have coming to them - that would be the Teamsters. Plain and simple.

I don't know any of their issues, but I do know that writing well takes time and effort. How many producers does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Nomore, I think that some good old fashioned grit and determination will see you and your fellow pilots through. Your cause is justified so you're already on the high road. Now just dig in and hold your ground. When you're frustrated just remind yourself that it's always darkest before the dawn. They will get the message. It's kinda hard to ignore it when it is placed prominently in letters 10 feet tall...;) NJW

I gave up dark parking lots; just too embarrassing getting busted by the police....:blush: My soon to be husband thought it was [story deleted to honor request of other participant] ....let me just say I prefer [ private subject matter deleted............] .....post interrupted by phone ringing.... it was my husband....:eek: talk about being busted....:p Sorry, I was digressing .... delete ... delete..

I agree that those who fought the early fights to establish unions are deserving of our respect and gratitude. All the more reason why the antics of a few are deplorable for casting aspersion on the good work done by many. Leaving reputations aside, I still think the NJ pilots could do a lot for their group with the 90K sent to the national each month and the greater autonomy would make a positive difference in the day to day running of the union. I know that 1108 would like to have electronic voting, for example, but IBT doesn't allow it.

Don't you know not to judge a book by its cover...;) For Halloween I dressed as a witch during family time and in the adults hours I was a pirate... I may have a kind heart, but I don't wear a halo....:p
