Taxes keep guy from going into space

I can't believe this guy couldn't come up with the money ($25,000.00) to do, a once in a lifetime chance, to go into space. There has to be more to this story but he should of been able to sell his story or something to raise the money. It's not like he doesn't have a decent job. How could anyone miss out on this opportunity?

Perhaps it wasn't that he couldn't come up with the money, but he just couldn't justify borrowing it for what he was getting. He was a space buff and all, but it was just a suborbital flight, not one of those trips to the international space station. A suborbital space flight would be fun, but it's really just a short carnival ride. I don't think I'd go into debt for it ... a trip to the ISS though, I might take out a second mortgage for that.
