Looking for a recommendation in central FL for my tailwheel endorsement (Tampa/Orlando area)? Can't seem to find anyone around here that offers training in one.

Thanks in advance!

PM Traumahawk,

He is from the Tampa area, is an experienced instructor (including tailwheel) and should know the right direction to point you, if he doesn't take you on himself.

Tailwheel Instruction

How about in central North Carolina, northern South Carolina?

Brown's Seaplane Base near Winter Haven used to do this. I'm sure they could give you a referral for the Orlando area.

Thanks for the replies.

I was planning on doing Brown's seaplane rating at the end of the summer after I spent some time in a taildragger (since they use cubs). I will call them tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind taking a week off work to do it out of state. What did you have in mind?

PM Traumahawk,
I will, thanks!

I use to fly into TPA a lot once upon a time and I remember seeing the different flyers on the wall regarding tailwheel instruction, just can't remember the name of the flight schools. Give Raytheon (KTPA) a call, I am sure they would point you in the right direction and give you the contact information.

ps>> Is the Cheesecake Factory still open at International Plaza? I heard from a friend that it just recently closed. Hope that is not the case....

At Lakeland Airport somebody does instruct on his own J3 cub, don't know the guy's name but the FBO should know him.
At Winterhaven(KGIF) there's a guy instructing on his Aircam (Twin Rotax tailwheel kinda ultralight thingie)
once again FBO should be able to help you with a name.

Frank White in VeroBeach only $250. He is a retired PanAm 747 captain(the reason its so cheap). He even lets you take the airplane solo the day he gives you the endorsement. Email me if you want his info.

Air Orlando at ORL(www.flyairorlando.com) does tailwheel in a Citabria...but it's expensive(about $120-130 an hour plus instructor I think). The guy who does the instruction in it has a bunch of Pitts time(used to own one). Ryan is his name if you call and want to talk to him. Also check out the ERAU Sport Aviation Club(www.db.erau.edu/campus/student/clubs/sportavi/). It's $500 to join the ERAU club(anybody can join, it's less for ERAU students) and then $35 per hour for a J3 Cub(dry) and $100 for a Pitts S2B. Trust me, you won't find a Pitts that cheap anywhere else.

Wow, that is awesome. I don't think they were around back when I graduated Riddle in '98 (ABA). Now I can finally put my fading eagle card that I have been carrying around in my wallet to good use.

Thanks
