Hello all-
I have a cool opportunity to ferry my uncles newly-purchased Piper Pacer up to Alaska from Charleston, SC very soon. Cheap way to build PIC time and see the country as well..

I don't have my tailwheel endorsement as yet (but ins. requires at least 5hrs in type anyway); so I'm looking to recieve the dual/endorsement in my uncles plane..

Could anyone recommend a good CFI in Charleston I could contact for this?? Please pm me or reply.

thanks!

I can do it for you in Corvallis, OR if you want to come here. Alternatively, you could pay for me to travel to you! :)

Thanks. I'm pretty sure a guy I found on the field in Charleston will do the trick..

Yeah- should be a heck of an adventure.

Ralgha- thanks for the offer; but I do need to have the endorsement before I fly the airplane anywhere (obviously) and flying you there and back would be a little cost ineffective.

What's your home field? I may stop there for gas on my trip. PM me if you want...

It is a fun trip. I used to sell Helio Couriers with Larry Montgomery in Spartanburg, South Carolina from 92-96. I have delivered many Helios to and from Alaska. I know it took me five days and 40 hours of flight time from SC. Just remember to not be in a hurry. The weather can change and you have to change with it. It is very beautiful through Alberta, BC, Yukon and in. I flew up to Montana and went North to the start of the ALCAN highway. I flew it all the way to Alaska and then either went westward to Anchorage or Northwestward to Fairbanks. I would reccomend the video from Larry Bartlett - Flying the Alaskan Highway. Get it, it is well worth the money if you have never flown it. It showed me places to stop and landmarks. Take notes, I did. It tells you what maps to get and so forth. It is kinda neat too seeing some of the places on there. Like the Log control tower. You will fly low through the valleys. Brush up on your map reading skills. Know how to do a box canyon turn (kind of a modified Chandelle) to get out of trouble if you go up the wrong canyon. I dont mean to scare you. You just have to be alert and aware of the surroundings. I wish I had stayed longer in Alaska to fly around. I was in a hurry to get back home. It is neat though at midnight being able to see. Take enough film. You will have a blast and remember it for the rest of your life. I still reminise (sp?) about the shear beauty and fun of it. I am flying around at 41000 feet now and hardly look out the window anymore. If you need help I am still a CFII with over 1500 tailwheel time if you need an endorsement and cant find one. I live near Lincoln County Airport (IPJ) North of Charlotte. Get the video and remember to have fun.

I am qualified in tailwheel instruction and I have done taiwheel endorsements. Also I can come to you in Charleston as I do with most of my students. Send me a private message.
