Is the first line of the forecast general forecast for the entire valid period (0200utc-2400utc) or just for the period from the time the first valid period (0200utc) until the next significant weather change (0600utc)?

KJFK 160133Z 160224 10020G30KT 1/2SM -RA BR OVC005
FM0600 10012G18KT 2SM -RA BR OVC004
FM1200 27010KT 3SM -RA BR OVC020
PROB040 1315 1/4SM +TSRA FG BKN003CB
FM1700 26015G23KT 5SM -SHRA BR OVC025
FM2100 22010KT 4SM -SHRA BR OVC025

Does the "main body" only pertain to forecast meteorological conditions initial forecast period, or does the main body encompass more than just the 1st line, but also the following significant changes (ie FM, BCMG)?

Are the terms remarks and conditional statements (i.e.: PROB040) the same thing, or is there a difference between remarks and conditional statements?

I appreciate all your help and specific references supporting your answers.

AIM 7-1-32 c. 5.

"The wind, visibility, and sky condition elements are always included in the initial time group of the forecast.....If a significant, lasting change in any of the elements is expected during the valid period, a new time period with the changes is included."

So no, the first line of the TAF does not give the general forecast for the valid time period of the entire TAF. You may be confusing this with the format of an Area Forecast (FA).

"Any temporary conditions expected during a specific time period are included with that time period."

Think of 'FM' as beginning the new main body - it includes all the required elements as referenced above. Only the elements that change (i.e. VIS) during that 'FM' line will be stated with TEMPO, BECMG, etc.

There are no "remarks" included with the TAF format.
