I'm looking for links to any info on the T-6A or T-34C. I'm going to be starting UPT at Whiting Field NAS in March. I've heard that they have the T-34C, but are getting the T-6A. I'm previous airline and know the PT6A pretty well. I just want to get some info on the airplanes in general, but if anyone has specifics, particularily pictures, on either A/C's engines, I would be appreciative. I am still at AF OTS and would like to put a brief together on the PT6A for other pilots. Thanks in advance.

Whiting will not have the T-6 for several years. If you come to Whiting, you'll fly the T-34. NAS P-cola has them but they're for NFO/NAV training. Good luck.

Limiting a/c to 2.5 G's, that sounds like a great way to train! How standard is the instrument panel? The AF's T-37 has a pretty bad one because of how old it is.

What do you mean by API? My orders say to report to Whiting NLT 20 Jan. If it is for some initial piot training, I have quite a lot of time and experience. Hopefully I wouldn't need that. Thanks for the link. I'll be checking it out.

You're right. Just talk to the student control officer, let him know and they'll work on getting you the "been there, done that" waiver and schedule a winging date for you.

OK guys, that's not what I meant. Is API part of UPT? If not then I have a problem. I am going to be 30 in Feb. I have been told that I need to be in UPT by age 30 or I can't at all. HQRS told me that I wouldn't need the AF's IFT (initial flight training). Is API something like that or is it just the first part of UPT, the initial ground schools, etc. I know that I will need that then. I'm not an idiot, just trying to get information so that I can try to prepare ahead of time to do the best I can. I was also trying to give you guys information so that you could give me informed information.

Welcome to the military. Choose thy words carefully as everything you say in military aviation can and will be used against you...just look at all those dorky callsigns!

API is not like IFT and you are correct in assuming you wouldn't need IFT (there's a worthless program). API consists of a handful of groundschools (Aerodynamics, Engines, navigation, etc.) Some swim stuff and physical fitness stuff. There's also some land survival and other fun stuff. The pansies did away with the boxing...probably had something to do with the Air Force getting involved. Anyway, good luck. Let us know how it's going. I've enjoyed watching the progress and positive attitude changes of a few other folks who are in the program now.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know what API was. I was prepared/knew about the first 6 weeks of ground school type instruction, but was wondering about what API was because I am worried about the age thing. Thanks for sorting it out for me, it sounds like fun and a lot of good information.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure once you get your foot in the API door, you are considered to have started "UPT". If they cut you orders, I don't think anyone else will be looking to cut you due to age.
