Does anyone have any info on the T-6 (or T-34, if it is still there) IUT at NAS Pensacola?

I have a couple questions if someone wouldn't mind helping me.

Thanks!

As far as I know, the only Navy base that has the T-6 is NAS Pensacola at the navigator training units. Last I heard, the T-6s were just taking up ramp space and not being used to train any of the navs. Neither of the pilot VTs have any T-6s and aren't scheduled to receive them any time soon. The Air Force is, in my estimation, about halfway transitioned to the T-6.

When did you go through the FRS for H-3s? Maybe we ran into each other out there.

I would have guessed the IUT was actually PIT in Randolph, but I really don't know much about the p-cola operation. Maybe someone needs to track down "Sugar" Shane. I hear that individual is flying navs around in the T-6 nowadays.

I was told the IUT in Pensacola is pretty backed up (not enough instructors). The last word I got was that they expect to unblock the pipeline for instructors around summer, and to expect a possible slot then.

They fly the T-6's all the time at NAS Pensacola. Their plan is to be 50/50 T-6/T-34 by this summer. Looks like a nice bird. They buzz my helo sometimes while I am clobbering up the pattern.

By the way, I learned to fly the H-3 in Norfolk, so we may have crossed path's.

I've been flying the T-6 at P'cola for the past few months. We are flying tons of nav students in the T-6aS. Each new class these days is averaging around 50% T-6 students. We are definitely running short on instructors and the IUT is pumping them out as fast as they can.

Yes, the IUT is located right here in P'cola. Our first instructors were trained out in San Antonio, but that was almost a year ago.
I have heard "rumors" that they are keeping the T-34 IUT open for a while but will not be training many more pilots. For the most part my squadron has been sending all of the new instructors to the T-6 within the past couple of months.

I hope this information helps. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

I was assigned to the H-3 unit in Norfolk. I know one of the bubbas in your SAR unit who is also from HC-2. Guess my info about the T-6 was a little dated, haven't been down that way lately. Maybe if I had a T-6 instead of the Tweet it would be easier to make the trip.

Big D was over my house last night for a Poker turney-

You guys from HC-2 are still down here this week sucking up our flight time! The weather was crap last 2 weeks, so I guess they did not get as much done as they wanted to.
