For those of you in the know...

When SWA starts to interview again, will they call those people who had apps in prior to 11/01/02? Even though they do not have a 737 type since it was not required then? Or will they just interview typed people?

Thanks

SFR

As far as I know all people with types are at the top of the stack. From there the priority is from Application date. I was told this by LL on the phone.

Hope that helps.

typed

Despite the fact that types weren't required prior to 11/1/02, SWA still called typed people in front of non-typed people as a general rule. That wasn't all inclusive, but it was close.

I think thats pretty much always been the case
I applied without the type in June 2000 and got the interview in May 2001
So when it's all said and done it will only have taken 3 years to get the job

i've flown with and talked to several interview team members in the past 9 months and from what they've said i would say that even if you did get an interview without a type rating it would be almost impossible to get a hired. they assign extra points in the interview to people who have type ratings. this info came from an interview team member last march while they were still interviewing. of course if you are chuck yeager or an ex astronaut you might still get hired without a type. good luck.

Type rating

I think that if you really want to work at Southwest you should get a type rating. You will get an interview more quickly—in this economy you may not get one at all without a type. Also you will feel more relaxed and confident in the interview knowing that you have done everything possible to make yourself the best candidate for the Airline. The downside is that the type rating is a big expense with no guarantees of any return on your investment. What is it worth to work at the best airline in the world for the next twenty or thirty years?
Good Luck, Pinto

True.. The way I look at it is like this. I want to work for SWA, therefore I have one option. Get the type. I figure two things can happen:

-I get interviewed and hired. (Worth every penny at that point)

or

-I get interviewed and turned down. Oh well, at least I have a story of my vast experience in the 737 sim.

Even if they decide they don't like me, I will just stay at my regional for the time being and be an RJ captain. It could be worse.

SFR,

Amen, brother. I'm with Indapool....it's been about a three-year process for me too, including interview and type rating a few months later. If I had gotten the type first and interviewed successfully, I would have started sometime in 2001. As it stands, I'm hoping for early 2003 to start at SWA. Ironically, this is about the same amount of time I would have had to wait had I interviewed unsuccessfully, but with the type rating, and then had to reapply and reinterview. Don't forget, the two-year restriction (as of company policy today, at least) applies from your date of first application, not your date of first interview. And there a lots of very happy Southwest pilots who made it to the company on their second, third, fourth or even fifth interview. Good for them! Fantastic dedication, and well worth the perseverence, I'm sure. Also, the cost of the type rating will be more than offset by the better first-year pay at Southwest when compared to other airlines that are hiring now. So good luck! Get out there and bust out that 737 license, read Nuts! a few times, buy that nice Italian suit on sale and get ready for the best interview and hiring process in the industry. Seeya!

ditto...

on ALL of the above posts!

I rolled the dice and typed just AFTER submitting my paperwork, good thing too - put in the app in July 2001, started type school @ HPA on Sept 10, 2001..... interviewed Jan 2002, hired March 2002.

Now, waiting for my turn to exit these hallowed waters.... as we slowly tread from the deep end towards shallow water... several holes have been patched in the water wings, trying to keep my fresh, new, Pool Rat towel from dipping in the water... I think my big toe JUST touched the bottom of the pool!!!!! Almost, almost there!!!

BIG congRATs to all getting the calls to DAL - please save a few bottles of W. Turkey for us guys & girls.... can't wait to bump you up the list and take your reserve lines soon!!!

Regards - Tred:cool:
