I know it has probably already been discussed, but I am too lazy to search for it. At the risk of the messages breaking down into insults and name calling as they so often do; where would you go and why, SWA or CAL?
I wouldn't make such a decision based on what you fly...let's face it, it's a GD airliner not matter how you stack it...pick the one that keeps you from having to commute. You would probably upgrade quicker at CAL, but if they merge with someone, it may take forever. SWA should be more stable, but history has not been kind to the "#1 airline". Good luck!
I'd pick based on job security. Wait, that was my only criteria for choice.
I'd say job security is an oxymoron but I know what you're getting at.
In any case, this is flamebait and if it's not and the poster truly is "too lazy" to search for related threads then 1. He/she probably won't do too well at SWA and 2. We should be "too lazy" to give him all of our dissertations eh?
Yor to lazy to search? PLEASE go to CAL.
I knew it would not be long before the thread broke down. No wonder our industry is in the crapper, we would rather attack each other than stick together. Thanks for everyone who put forward an honest opinion. I agree, if one were to have the option of two it would be a blessing, and it really is a personal preference. There is really no way to tell the future and either one could be great or could be poop. Its all attitude. My personal opinion is SWA has the right attitude. I mean all you have to do is read a few other threads and see the pattern. SWA guys defend their airline and management and take a lot of heat for it. That says a lot. It means they believe in their company which is rare in this industry.
go to CAL.
Agreed. You will work too hard at SWA.
neither... go to fedex or ups period. pax side flying faces many threats with increased competition, too much capacity, not much room to grow. open skies, and age 65. SWA or CAL will eventually come not to a screeching halt but WILL slow in the next 24 mos.
IMHO

If you think you're going to work more at SWA, I'd question that. I get 13 days off at CAL and fly 90 hours/month....my friend who's been at SWA just as long as I've been at CAL gets 17-18 days off a month, makes twice as much money, and flies the same hours. Sure, he's flying more per day but I'd rather do that and have more days off then be doing 24 hour overnights away from my family and 4 hour airport appreciation sits.
