Can anyone tell me if the new gates/terminal is open in HOU yet, or do you still have to go security to change gates?

I thought I remembered that the plan was to have all flights out of the same place and no security between flights.

Thanks
J3

yes, gates 1-12 are in our concourse and gates 12-25 are in another concourse. They are building the second wing on the new concourse and when that is finished I think all SWA will be on the same concourse. Looks like a few months more, however..

The old system was A, B, and C concourses. SWA had all of A, Airtran (& others?) had B, and SWA shared C with American & Delta, using the C gates for flights headed to Dallas exclusively. If you transferred at HOU from a flight that arrived at A (i.e. the jet was going to anywhere besides Dallas next) to a flight going to Dallas, you had to go through security as you entered the C concourse. Likewise if you had a transfer & your jet was heading to Dallas next (i.e. arrived at the C gates) but you weren't.

The present setup is A, B, C, and Central concourses. SWA still has all of A, Airtran uses B, American and Delta use C, and SWA runs all flights to Dallas, Harlingen, and Corpus Christi out of the Central concourse. Same "opportunities" to clear security during your connection apply.

Right now, SWA is really only using about half of the front side of what the central concourse will eventually be. Before long, the C concourse will be torn down to make room to finish the other half of the central concourse, and at some point the B concourse will be torn down so that the back side of the existing part of the central concourse will be usable. In the REALLY long term, I believe that the A concourse may even be replaced, but don't quote me on that.

The vision is that SWA will eventually have all their ops out of the central concourse, with everyone else using A (or its successor). Won't be next week or next month, however! It will be a nice setup when everything is complete... the new pilot & flight attendant lounges just opened up, and they're nice. Now if they can open up all the food service inside the central concourse as well...
