Dispatch ATC Specialist opening posting externally.
Looking for 5 years of 121 time. More info as available.
 
It reads like a posting designed more for internal candidates. I could be wrong though.

Position Title: Dispatch ATC Specialist - Dallas, TX
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
  • Work Activities/Context:
    • Charters: Oversees the dispatch personnel assigned to the task of assembling the information necessary to provide the charter package for the flight crews and ground operations and handles all questions pertaining to the charter operation. Refines procedures to allow charter operations to operate efficiently. Provides operational input to charters being marketed by charter contract sales to assure that the charters can be completed as sold. Liaison for SWA with the FAA on company charter issues.
    • Military: Represents SWA at Military meetings and with the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) concerning issues pertaining to the solicitation and awarding of DOD charters. Liaison with the Military concerning Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) issues and represents SWA at CRAF meetings. Provides performance data and coordinates aircraft offered to the Military as part of the CRAF allocation process. Holds a 'Secret' security clearance from the DSS as a requirement of CRAF participation. CRAF members are allowed to bid on the GSA city pairs.
    • Office Library: Assures the Dispatch library is maintained and kept up to date. Updates FAA, Boeing, DOT, DOD, and other reference materials. Maintains copies of all required FAA approved Boeing Airplane Flight Manuals for all models of the 737.
    • Boeing Flight Operations Engineering: Provides communication link to Boeing Flight Operations Engineering on issues such as performance and the ability to dispatch the 737 as it pertains to SWA.
    • Minimum Equipment List (MEL): Writes, edits, publishes and updates the FAA approved SWA MEL. Coordinates any and all changes with maintenance and flight operations. Assures FAA approval of all changes to the MEL. Member of the Master MEL Subcommittee of the Air Transport Association representing SWA. Acts as representative of SWA and ATA before the Flight Operations Evaluation Board concerning the Boeing 737 and supports SWA position as the lead airline for the 737. All changes to the Master MEL must be coordinated through the lead airline.
    • SWIFT Route Database: Maintains the flight planning database in SWIFT. Adds new routes, coordinates with Jeppesen on route changes and/or errors, liaison with the ATCT, ARTCC, and TRACONS to assure that the routes filed by the dispatchers are acceptable to all concerned.
    • Dispatch support: Provides research and analysis or issues that come before the dispatchers.
    • FAA liaison: Coordinates and maintains a professional and friendly relationship with the FAA inspectors assigned to SWA. Coordinates changes to manuals that require FAA approval.
    • Operations Specifications: Signs and coordinates change to the Operations Specifications A, B, C assigned to SWA. Member of the Operations Specifications Working Group of ATA which deals with industry wide changes and modifications to Ops Specs.
    • Staff: Prepares topics for discussion at the staff meetings called by the department head. Presents dispatcher point of view in conjunction with the Director of Dispatch and the Chief Dispatcher.
    • Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description.
    • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of five years Dispatch experience at a major carrier and possess in-depth knowledge of Southwest Airlines Dispatch procedures.
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
  • Must be a licensed Aircraft Dispatcher under Federal Guidelines.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Education: College coursework or a degree preferred.
  • Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Work Style:
    • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines.
    • Must possess excellent people skills and must be a team player.
    • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills in support of a large operational staff.
    • Must be able to work under tight time constraints and stressful and/or emergency situations.
  • Other Qualifications: Must maintain a well-groomed appearance.
 
I think Herb's saying, "hire for attitude, we'll train you for the job" applies to this position. If you have the 5 years, and a good knowledge base in general, they can always train you to SWA specific procedures.
