I just spoke to a buddy of mine @ SWA who said he was talking to Lou the CP of Midway. The plan is to continue with the 2 classes a month. That same info came from the CP in PHX.

A few threads earlier someone said they spoke to a CP somewhere that said there would only be (1) class in March, (2) in April, and then (1) in July.

Are they just doing this to toy with our minds, because if they are it sure is working!!!!!!!!! And I don't have much of a mind to toy with anymore. Ya know, the whole alcohol/brain cell thing. Please tell them to stop.

Anybody here anything along these lines? Or anthing else for that matter?

Information is power ...

While I would love to see a steady stream of 2 classes a month it looks pretty unlikely for March at this point. So far this year they have been consistant in calling people 4 weeks before class. I think there is a good reason for this (having to do with a FINAL background check within so many days prior to hiring - a new DOJ requirment). Three weeks might be possible, but I bet 2 weeks is too short. Thus, expect no March 3 class. The words out of Dallas these days is a March class is "speculative" and we'll know late February. Keep watching Iraq. I really think better times are ahead, and soon, but just not quite yet.

No they are not toying with our minds - they are saving the decsion making process until the right time. While it is painful for us, it should be easy for pilots to understand: there is no point in planning for a particular approach or runway if you don't know which way the wind is blowing. Well, the winds are still strong gusty and variable. I hope everyone is tankering gas, with weather like this you never know how long you may have to hold.

Hopefully, tomorrow will bring better news.

In recurrent training last week our welcome video from the training department mentioned the 1 Mar 2 Apr 1 Jul as current plans. All subject to change, as usual.

Canyonblue,

you a Michigan man?

Thought provoking

Ivauir,

While your words are very thought provoking they are not entirely true. As posted on other threads some calls for classes have come at less than (2) weeks out. So the idea of people already being called for the March 3rd class is not correct.

The other points my buddy mentioned is that there is quite a bit of open time to pickup also. But, they must not be to worried yet in that they have plenty of reserves to cover all the trips. I would just be extremely excited to be one of those reserves.

Where my numbers come from

Flyky,

I am not trying to be a downer, but, we at this point I'd rather be surprized than disappointed.

First off, the less than two week calls were from the cheif pilot - not LL. LL called all of those folks 4 weeks out like clockwork. Last year we'd see one or two people get added to a class with two weeks notice but never a whole class, even the surpise January class last year got 3 weeks notice. So, I think March 3rd is dead. March 17th could still happen, but there is a reason they are not going public with this schedule, they don't want us to get our hopes up. I've been told I am in the next class, but LL has gone from expecting at least one class in March to maybe one. I'll be hoping for a call on Feb 25th for the March 17th class, but I am at best holding speed recalculating my fuel. Apparently a storm in Badgad can affect the weather in Dallas.

Hang tough folks.

Hey guys..

A couple of things that may impact the class sizes/numbers..

One of the biggest stresses on the manning numbers are the amount of sick calls we get..As a result, the company has been pushing for a reduction in the number of sick calls through a number of means..The result has been a good sized reduction in the number of calls and less use of the reserves in some areas..

The other thing that may impact the classes is including reserve blocks in the blank lines of flying which if i understand it may increase the amount of reserve coverage..

As many of you know reserves are used to cover open flying thats left over from day to day as well as sick calls..

So...Less sick calls and more reserve coverage equals less manning..I have heard as much as one full class less for the year..

The good news is that we keep hearing about hiring and see increases in manning in the east coast bases which can be very good news for those wanting BWI or ORL..

All this at a time when every other airline is on its butt is just amazing..

Don't count on your chickens' flying

Wait, Chickens don't fly?

I talked to Lindsey today. Class for March is iffy at best.

March 2nd or 3rd is probably gonna be interesting to say the least in the Middle East. Most businesses are holding their breath over Iraq and Korea. And just wait 'till we go after Iran.

I would only count on covering retirements for the short term.

I am just glad I can tuck the kids in every night.

Good luck to anyone still in the armed forces, hope you return safe, victorious, and soon.

March class???? D#%* you Sadam

That "Evil Dictator" is really starting to piss me off. Had to really watch myself today at the Y on the treadmill. I almost flipped the Jackhole off when he popped up on CNN.

I'm with W....Let's hog-tie this bull, and make some oysters....Texas style.
