survival vest question

HI!!

My brother just bought a army helo survival vest from a guy, its a "SARVIP". The guy that sold it to him swore up and down that the vest is correct, but looking at photos, i swear the actual vest that you helo guys wore was different- not as many pockets. Can anyone tell me what this "SARVIP" thing is for??

The Army used the same old Nam style vest for 20+ years, the SARVIP was the first commonly issued vest with an extraction harness built into it. There are few other new ones that have come out in the past years that are used now.
