I'm wanting to jumpseat to PR and try my hand at surfing. I know I can easily get to SJU, but idealy I want to be on the west end of "the rock" near the town of Rincon. I think there is an airport near there called Aguadilla (BQN?) do any of you SJU Eagle people know the best way in there on a jumpseat?

i did some body surfing in Condado, PR over spring break. it was excellent....

either of the above suggestions are great. if you fly into sju, a rental car is good and cheap, and a short drive as well. mind your manners there when you paddle out, remember you are a guest. i speak from direct experience. enjoy..

Once you get to SJU go to TOL AIR (cargo company). They are on the other side of the airport. They have a flight that runs Monday thru Friday. It goes to Mayaquez PR. From there I think you can go over to Rincon. You may have to rent a car but I forget how close it is, when I worked there we had guys that brought surf boards and surfed all day. They would walk across the street and surf, if I remember Rincon is very close. (closer than Aquadilla) The flights are on a DC-3 and go over to Mayaquez in the AM and return to SJU in the PM. There is a jumpseat on the 3 and you can easily put your surfboard in the a/c.

Good luck and have fun.....

There's plenty of surf near the airport in Aguadilla. I think that TRADWINDS still flies directly into Aguadilla from Greenville NC and somewhere in Conneticut. You are going to be happiest with a rental car. Rincon is a 20-25 minute drive from the Aguadilla airport, not neccessary if you stay in the Ramey area. If you do get a rental you might as well just fly into SJU.

Surf season is winding down and in a month or so will be flat, especially in the Rincon area.

If you are a reservist or guard you can stay on the Coast Guard Base right above some great surf.

Good luck and don't leave any valuables in your car!

I use to fly to BQN with TWA, it's a great town. Try Hobos Beach, the surf is pretty good there however as stated above the season is winding down.

I'm not sure when the launch date is but Jet Blue is starting service there from JFK and we'd be happy to bring you down.

If you go via San Juan, the drive is only 2 hrs so I would stay away from Jump seating with TolAir. Also, do you surf already or are you trying to learn? If so, in Rincon there's a pretty good surf instructor named Melissa (yeah she's hot) that could show you the basics.
As someone mentioned, the season is winding down but its all relative. Are you looking for double-overhead Tres Palmas or fun chest to head high surf. There still plenty of that. Anyway, Rincon is pretty laid back and you'll have a lot of fun.
