I've been selected for a ANG SUPT slot but haven't received a date or base. I have a few Q's about housing during SUPT.
What type of housing is provided for single males?
Is it possible to have your girlfriend live with you during SUPT?
Is base housing furnished?
Is off-base housing a possibility? (for a single guy)
And finally,,,
Will the ANG pay for your move to SUPT?

Thanks for any input

Most bases have dorm style housing for single JSUPT students, and some bases allow two students to share a two bedroom base house.

The dorm rooms have a bare minimum of furnishings, the houses have no furniture.

Technically your girlfriend cannot live with you while you occupy government quarters. She can visit. Long term visits if you were in one of the houses would attract less attention than living in the dorms. Realize you would have to get her some sort of visitors pass unless she has military ID of her own, and even with that pass she is really only allowed on and off the base while you are at work. No shopping priviledges of any kind exist for unescorted guests at any of the BX/Commissary facilities.

Off base housing is possible, depending on the individual commander and how full the dorms are. There is some AF rule somewhere that says the dorms have to be somewhere near 90-95% full before they let you go off base. It makes no sense to pay a housing allowance when they have quarters available. Some commanders won't let students off base unless the dorms are bulging to capacity, and the students have to be through a certain part of the program. Seems they worry too much about accountability and you guys not studying. As if you could not get in your car and go find distractions and trouble from your dorm rooms--but hey, I am just the messenger.

I hate to be morbid, but realize if your girlfriend is with you at UPT and something happens to you that she basically is stuck there with no rights. So if you are thinking long term commitment you may want to make that more formal before you start UPT, or otherwise you may want to get a will done giving her specific rights and limited powers of attorney in certain legal matters that might come up. You will be in the military, and if anything bad happens, they will follow the letter of the law. Unless you are married, all your stuff goes to whatever next of kin you listed on your emergency data card--usually parents, siblings, etc.....

Lastly, the guard will pay for your move. You can move it yourself, this is called a DITY (do it yourself) move. Or you can arrange for the military to ship it. You will file paperwork with your ANG unit when you arrive at UPT and they will reimburse you. Your guard unit should be giving you this info, if not talk to one of the guys who just finished UPT and they will hook you up with all the people you need to talk through and probably tell you what they learned that caused them to lose money on their move.

Hope this helped. Good luck

Good info. What about housing for married couples? I have a wife and one year old...

You'll be eligible for base housing. The wait varies but they (housing office) know (usually) that students can't afford to worry about moving their family in the middle of training. That's unacceptable.

So should my family wait a couple weeks before coming with? What would our options be if we got there and nothing was available?

Here's a standard answer for you: It depends :D ...on the number of families on the base housing waiting list and how quick they're turning houses.
I would call or email the housing office of your gaining base and ask if you can be put on their waiting list. You might need orders to do that.

Not moving your family with you is an option but something you're going to have to deal with eventually. Your best bet is try and settle everyone at the beginning. After training day 1, you don't want to mess with a new house and TMO if you can help it.

Buying or renting is also an option. But, after graduating, do you really want to mess with selling a house? Renting would be a better option if anything exists.

Good luck

Would I recieve allowances for off base housing in that case? Thanks for your help.
