Does anyone know about Supervised Operating Experience (SOE)?

I had to undergo SOE after completing my first type rating, since the simulator was not a Level D simulator, and I had no previous experience in type.

The restriction on my certificate said that I had to undergo 25 hours of supervised operating experience as pilot in command before the restriction was lifted.

My real question is: I flew all of that time in the left seat with an instructor in the right seat. I manipulated the controls and called all the shots. I signed the books, and was listed in the log as CPT. They were watching me act as pilot in command. Can I log that flight time as the PIC?

Looking for everyones vast knowledge on the subject so that I have the flight time appropriately logged.

Thanks.

SOE

First I don't think that the supervising pilot has to be an instructor. I have had several pilots that I have supervised their Initial Operating Experience. Now I will admit that we were operating under 135 so that could effect the requirements. But the only requirement I remember discussing was that the supervising pilot be a current and qualified PIC.

Next, it is supervised PIC. So I would say you could log it as PIC. The airlines when they do IOE's, the captain getting the IOE logs it as PIC. Your name is on the paperwork as PIC.

SOE and IOE are two different things.

Now for SOE
You need to be typed in a plane that requires a type rating before you can log any PIC in that plane.

Its ment for after you pass your type rating ride. 25hrs in the left seat after your typed with a qualified captain in the right seat.

However like all of the other regs its open to interpertation. a lot of FISDOs say only 25 in type "not caring if its in the left seat or not". Those that actually read it will see its supposed to be in the left seat.

YES... Log as PIC... You are merely being "Supervised" as you act as PIC... You are the PIC, even though you are being "supervised"...

You are the PIC either way... (Supervised or not)

PIC

I believe the question turns on whether you signed for the airplane. If you sign for the airplane, you are PIC. You signed for the airplane. Therefore, log all of it as PIC.
