Is this relatively new technology? From what I can find on google, it looks like it's a system programmed to reply with automated advisories to the pilot's inbound call to an uncontrolled field, w/ messages becoming more concise as frequency congestion increases.

Just wanted to know as the website for a local field (S03) says a super unicom is "coming soon."

Thanks.

This was being tested on airports in PA as of about 6 or 7 years ago. It was pretty cool, but not really too useful. The company's mascot is a pretty sweet looking duck though.

TLS precision approaches were supposed to become all the rage as well. Which is kind of funny considering I can think of two airports where they are installed, but we can't use them for some reason or another.

We have it at an airport out here, it can get pretty annoying sometimes when you're trying to use the CTAF for aircraft to aircraft communications (advisories and such) and it keeps interrupting with "Winds calm, etc"

That's what I wondered about... sounds like a pain in the rectum.
