Stunt pilots take aim at homeowners

Tracy Press

Tracy homeowners’ noise complaints against stunt planes will be recorded on their deeds if the president of the Northern California Aerobatics Club has his way.

“The city of Tracy has asked me if I (know) anything about rules for attaching noise complaints to the deeds of property owners who complain,” wrote club President Darren Pleasance in an e-mail to stunt pilots across the country April 26.

“We’d have to decide how we’d wield this ‘weapon,’ but knowing it exists, and how to use it, would at least be good to understand sooner rather than later if we need it,” Pleasance wrote.

The move would force homeowners to disclose their noise complaints to prospective homebuyers, potentially reducing the sale value of a home.

The club lost its right to perform stunts in 2004 because of noise complaints after flying in Tracy 20 years.

Huh...I was under the impression the aerobatic box was southeast of Tracy by quite some distance. Unless the area has been built up quite a bit in the last 10 years, I would still speculate the box is outside the city limits. I think it's near New Jerusalem airport....

[rant]Another city bowing to idiot homeowners who didn't bother to look at ALL the ramifications of buying a home anywhere in the US![/rant]

Two separate boxes. One's at New Jerusalem, the other is right at Tracy airport. We just got the Tracy box reinstaed after 2 years of battling the FSDO, but have had the NJ box all along... but with no way to be able to use it for critiquing, as the runway is closed due to surface deterioration. (Most of the length is OK to land, as confirmed by ahh, umm, close visual inspection but I guess everyone wants to play nice with the local gov.)

(I'm using "we" loosely as I only joined the chapter last summer and haven't flown in either of the boxes.)

Here's an overview of the area. The box is on the east side of the field, and the lower left corner is clipped at the 30/12 extended centerline. Haven't been near there lately, but I guess that construction area to the lower left must be houses now.

What are they doing? Practicing airshows or something?!

No, practicing competition aerobatics.

Sweeet. I'd by a house there just to get the free airshows all day.

I dunno, if you ever go check out an acro competition expecting to see something like an airshow, you'd probably be disappointed. All the action happens much higher and further away from you.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm surprised at the noise complaints if they stay so high.

Hahah, well therein lies the rub. So high as to not be an exciting spectacle isn't so high as to avoid pissing off the neighbors.
