On a flight from Saint-George, UT to LAX about three years ago I heard this from a flight off of Vegas...

United XXX (rather squeaky female voice): "Center, United XXX requests a shortcut direct YYY."

silence...

United XXX (same voice): "Center, United XXX requesting direct YYY."

more silence...

United XXX (again with the squeaky voice): "Center, United XXX requests the shortcut direct YYY."

again more silence...this time broken by an obviously disguised deep male voice..."Honey, your whole career has been a shortcut. Sit back and relax a for once."

Had this one a few years back coming out of Arcata, CA and heading towards SFO (EARLY morning 5am-ish).

Center (female): "SkyWest XXX turn left 275 and proceed direct Fortuna VOR"

My captain and I sort of looked at each other in wonder, as Fortuna is almost due-south of ACV. Then she came back and said...

Center (female): "I'm sorry SkyWest, did I say 275? I meant 175 direct Fortuna when able."

My Captain: "Yeah we were kinda wondering about that..."

Center (female): "Sorry. Normally I give pretty good heading in the morning." She'd left the mic keyed for just a few seconds after saying that, so we got to hear the reaction of the folks around her. "WHOA!"s and laughs and such...

My Captain: "Uh...I love you."

Center: "Thanks."

Aww...sonofa...

This was supposed to end up on the arse-end of the "Funny Radio Calls" post.

Take it for what its worth.
