Was considering doing a cycle of steroids and was curious if any other pilots have done so while being employed with an airline. Just curious about drug testing, although I do not believe it is something tested for.

Anyone?

Man

Wow you are probably going to get a heap of $hit for this one. But here is my .02 cents I wouldn't worry about being pre-employment testing for steriods seeing as the cost is 2-3k to test for them.

Now if you are already employed and all of a sudden get ripped up I am sure that would raise some suspicisions of your co-workers and Cheif Pilot. I would assume that then they can test you and might be willing to spend the money for the steriod test.

However I belive a couple years back Fed Ex was running a study with the Palm Beach Rejuvination on the positve effects on HGH for pilots flying long hours. HGH is legal although rather expensive.

As far as for street crap or Mexican crap I would never recommend using that regardless of flying or not.

Steriods? I remember once, when I wanted my prostate to swell up to the size of a basket ball, just so I could take it out and show it to people.

As a formal college athlete that has been around that stuff. I would never suggest it. Not even HGH. I have seen the personal human defects it will or can produce.
From a pilots stand point. Unless you have the schedule where you are able to work out 2-3 hours a day, you're just going to put on body fat. I'm not talking hitting the Bow-Flex either. You need a solid schedule to live by. None of this flying first thing in the morning one week, then flying nights the next. Your sleep and lifting schudule is the most important.
Why do you need to get "ripped" while sitting in the cockpit? Does you job duty require you to be so strong, you need the juice? is the paperwork getting that heavy?
How about trying a healthy diet, and a good lifting program if you want to get big.

Debo007,

Are you considering this as treatment for some medical condition ? Maybe you should check with your AME...

Decca

Decca is by far the safest out there but unfortunatly if you do it alone it will raise your estrogen levels and make you a giant PMSing women. But since it is a tissue rejenerator is replaces torn muscle fibers almost instantly. But to do Decca and not get the side affect of PMS you have to boost it with testostorone.

The other problem with Decca is that while you are on it you will not produce any live sperm so you have to counter that with hgc and forgive me cause I don't know what that stands for.

I recommend simply doing a ask jeeves search.

You're forgetting the most important part. How do you wipe your own ass since you'll be so huge that you can't reach behind yourself?

Decca Durabolin (Methandrostanalone) is actually one of the lesser evils when it comes to gynocomastia. Short (smart) cycles don't really require Human Chronic Gonadatropin (sp?) or other androgen antagonists. It's the safest bet, among what can be pretty nasty stuff when not used intelligently (assuming you can call someone intelligent who uses them ... period :D ). It's also not bad for the raging meanies or back acne, like testosterone and Winstrol.

Nowadays though, I'm not sure why anyone would want to juice unless you were a competitive athlete. There's just too many risks, especially to your career. :(

Here's some advice. Go to your AME or primary care physician. Ask them about taking steroids, and then TAKE THEIR ADVICE INSTEAD OF A BUNCH OF US OR YOUR WEIGHTLIFTING FRIENDS!! (Neither group knows the first thing about the implications that really matter.) Then talk to an aviation attorney that specializes in pilot enforcement action in regard to medial certification. ASK THEM.

Your well-meaning friends at the gym have zero medical training or experience. They have had successful muscle gains by abusing steroids, but they honestly are clueless about the real long-term health effects.

Don't throw away your career and health for some stupid muscle tissue. Besides, is your lifting program so well administered, your diet tweaked to perfection, your training regimen so absolutely flawless that you've reached the limit of your human potential? My guess is probably not. Put the focus on that first. Don't take the lazy-a$$ way out

I was having a hard time understanding why a pilot would risk his pro career, but I think I have it figured out, based on a conversation I had once in SVH.

You don't fly a DC6 do you? Big guns and massive pecks might come in handy for wrestling that wheel around. :D

Depends on the aircraft you wish to fly. If you are going to be an FO on a Beech 1900, the cockpit is smaller and your "ripped, well oiled body" may not fit. Now, if you are getting hired right into a 767-300ER FO seat---there is plenty of room---but have extra napkins available from all of the puss coming from the popped zits on your back (steroids equal severe back acne---or "backne")---flowing down the seat after each flight. Seeing that--I am sure you will want some Boston Creme dohnuts while flying those flights---with the creme filling! Yum!

Are you a girlie man? Sorry with the Arnold stuff I couldn't resist.
Right on with the Arnold Stuff. He's great. The same people who oppose his "Girlie men" comments are the idiots like Duane Worthless who endorse John Kerry using MY dues money. I don't pay ALPA to endorse politics.

Related to this subject, anyone know if you can really fail an airline drug test by having positive levels of Goldenseal in your blood?

no big deal

I had a bad case of poisen ivy last month, the doctor gave me some type of steroids to take. I felt like Cosmo Kramer the entire time I was on the stuff. Very jittery and I could feel my heart rate increase within an hour or so. I was also very impatient with things and would loose my temper at really trivial things. This would be enough for me to say absolutely no way you should be on that stuff and operate ANY type of heavy equipment. If thats not enough, I had to get my medical this month as well, "no problem" I thought "I've been off the stuff for about a week now". Well the nurse took my blood pressure twice before she poked her head out of the door to find another nurse to come in and get a second opinion. She thought she had made a mistake becouse my blood pressure was 135 over 103! (normal for me is 124 over 88) I didn't think they were going to let me out of the office. Luckily they blamed it on the steroids and gave me my medical anyway.

So sure, no big deal, go ahead.
