For the older guys out there who have set out for a career change - how do u stay motivated through it all - the economy, the ups and downs.

I started out very motivated but over the last year with job loss, relocation and a break up, i think its taking a toll.

Any thoughts, ideas. What kept u going thru the worst of times?

I got back into my old business. I am a 45 year old career changer and can not afford to work for nothing any longer.

We are not over the 2008 economic meltdown yet, and aviation will not lead the recovery.

That said, I am blessed in that I can work my old company AND still fly. But if I had to choose, I am ready to hang up my wings for now.

It really depends on where you're at.

If you're still earnings your certs, take a break from training and do some recreational flying with the certs you've earned. Enjoy flying. Enjoy flight. Share that with someone else.

Take a moment next time you're airborne and look at all the small houses and cars with the people in them going about their business.

Buzz a prison!

Get a tailwheel endorsement.

Get checked out in an advanced aircraft. Challenge yourself, your skills.

Accinelli, most opportunities come disguised as handwork and sacrifice. I got very discouraged many times. lack of funds, lack of ability(damn NDB approaches) and many other issues. If you truly want this it will happen, you will be a better person for enduring the hardship. I was a career changer, my first year flight training was also my first year of marriage we could not afford a Christmas tree. I remember my wife crying on christmas day. I just celebrated my 14 anniversary and I am a captain at AirTran. Life is what you make of it, My life has been far more interesting by the path I have chosen.
