The incumbent in this position will inspect and license airports and manage a database of airport information using Microsoft Access. The person in this position will enforce Minnesota rules and statues pertaining to aeronautics and work with customer groups to improve the safety of airports and aviation-related activities. The incumbent will also pilot state aircraft. Minimum Qualifications: Extensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations;
Basic knowledge of trigonometry which is used in runway analysis;
Computer knowledge and experience sufficient to manage a database of airport information;
Human relations and communication skills sufficient to prepare and present technical information to groups of all sizes.

Required Certifications:

FAA certification to operate high performance and complex aircraft;
Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument rating or airline Transport Pilot Certificate;
1,000 hours pilot time and 500 hours as pilot-in-command
Current First or Second-Class Medical Certificate by the time of appointment.

Typically, the level of expertise required to perform this job can be achieved with approximately two to three years experience in one or more of the following areas:

Aviation safety and legal compliance inspector for a governmental agency; OR
Manager of a fixed base operation; OR
Instructor or professor of avaiation management or aviation sciences at an accredited university or college; OR
Aviation program administrator for a large education, business or governmental organization.


Preferred Qualifications: Multi-engine rating;
Seaplane rating;
Flight instructor certificates;
Rotocraft helicopter rating;
Knowledge of land surveying equipment and techniques;
Knowledge of geographic informational systems;
Bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited university with a major in avaiation or related field. Selection Process: The selection process is a resume-based, skill-matching process.
