I saw a thread on here on TIST hotels and such.. Does anyone recall inexpensive hotels or can point me to the thread with the info thanks....

Where ever you stay, go check out Benny Iguana's. Best sushi I've had in a long while. Todd is the chef I think, does a great job.

Marriot's Frenchman's Reef. Great beach and nice hotel, about 10-15 minutes from the airport.

Wyndham Sugar Bay, all-inclusive and I think you can get an interline rate. If you have a large family or group perhaps renting a villa is a better option for you. Here's a link to my buddy's place, the are others on this link as well...Enjoy! I hope it posts here...http://www.caribbeandays.com/stthomas/2bedroom/rockworks.shtml

I second the Marriott Frenchmans Reef. If you can, get a room at Morning Star. They're a set of rooms lower than the hotel and directly on the beach. Havana Blue is a great place to dine and drink. However, be sure your per diem or credit card will handle the load. Typical meals for two run $70+ with a couple of drinks. Coconut Joe's on the other end is only slightly less expensive. Breakfast for one runs in the $20 neighborhood.

Every night was something new in the room. The first night was a gift bag with munchies, rum and champaign. Other nights was a light snack, fresh bottled water or Kaluha. Absolutely fantastic service!

Cab or water taxi to town is $5 each way. Cab to the airport, depending on luggage will run $20 for two people.

Shopping is great and duty free. By the way, the rum is pretty darn good to. I recommend Cruzan, any flavor!

By the way, I was just there a week ago, so this is fresh info.

I stayed at Sugar Bay a few years ago and it isn't bad either. The only problem is it's on the other side of the island and if I remember correctly there isn't anything nearby once you leave their property.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or ask here.

I thought the Frenchman's Reef Marriott was my little secret!
Every time I go there we're the only ones on the beach. Plusbeing on the Eastern side of the Island gets you away from the stink ofthe west side. I think the west side has the sewage facilities orsomething.
You can get an airline discount there. If you're not with an airline, you can get a AAA discount. Have fun!

Nearest to the airport (1/4 mile) is the Best Western Emerald Beach. It's no 5 star resort, but not too bad...unless you're expecting a 5 star resort. ;) All rooms are on the beach at Lindbergh Bay, has a pool, restaurant, beach bar (Sam makes killer Bushwackers), clean rooms and a great beach. Very affordable compared to other STT resorts.

If you spend any time at all other than an overnight, you'll want to hit the ferry to St John anyway. 45 minute ride from Charlotte Amalie ($7.00 pp) or 20 mins from Red Hook ($3.00 pp). I guarantee once you do St John no place will ever come close again. Pure paradise...just don't tell anyone. :)

If you're looking for a decent affordable vacation package for interline employees (check Caribbean/St Thomas):

http://openskiesonline.com/index.htm

Low season $329 pp 3 days/4 nights. Includes Space A on Delta plus room and taxes.

As far as rum...Cruzan is by far the best anywhere! Flavored is good, but try the real rum. ;)

The popular interline place seems to be Bolongo's. That's righton the beach and has a lot of water activities. Everyone who goesthere says it's alright, but not great.

Stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay a few years back. Good place, a bit far from town if you're looking for night life. If you're on a tight expense account, this is a good place because of the all-inclusive. They serve a mean pina colada!
