After Completing my PPL, I stumbled into a friend using the Sporty's Private Pilot DVD course. I watched a few clips and realized I could of trimmed off some early dual hours learning some basic things and saved some money and time if I would have bought the course for 200$. I purchased an ASA textbook packet 2 years ago. I attended a local charter/flightschool for my PPL and had a good expierence with my local cfi's and hope to get my instrument rating with my same cfi. My question is for anyone who has used the Sporty's instrument course and if it prepares you well as maybe a kingschools (expensive) instrument DVD course? Or should I stick to the usual Instrument textbook and FAR/AIM? I want to take advantage a good prep course this time and be a bit more prepared before I try to pursue my IFR rating since it's going to be a lot more difficult.

Coincidence...I just brought home the first Sporty's Instrument DVD from the flight school I work at, but then disc wasn't in the case. Did you take it?

I've seen the Sportys DVD. Like the expensive King (not the less expensive knowledge test prep) it's a course that is tied to a flight training syllabus. It can indeed cut time off your training since it is an extension of the pre- and post-flight sessions your CFII should otherwise be doing (even if you're doing "ground school").

Going to work on holds on the next lesson? Watch the segment on holds until you understand what they are and how they work. After the lesson, go back to it if there was anything that you didn't understand.

Yea I was thinking the same, but you could watch the whole DVD course and get a better perspective before you even start your Flight training. I just recieved Volume one of the DVD IFR course for free, just pay 3$ for shipping.

Any Course is Worth Taking

So long as you the student takes the initiative to learn it, it will come so much more easily. I work mostly with professionals who want to fly recreationally. As such, they don't have the same dedication to flying as a professional would. Between a real job, a spouse, and children they don't have the same opportunity to focus on flying. They present a unique and very exciting challenge because they need to be "babied" as it's put. Not because they don't get it, but they just don't have the time to go off on their own. They need me to be at the top of my game.

If you will take the time to research and learn on your own, you will be much further ahead of the game.
