Hi:

I start training soon at Spirit. Just curious about what to expect. I have finished the Airbus CBT that they sent me. Are there any memory items or limitations to commit to memory before showing up?

Is the training in FLL largely CBT based with classroom discussion to follow up on what you've learned on your own? I have a couple of types and I've been through a few 121 events at one previous airline, I'm just trying to anticipate how Spirit will compare as the CBT stuff is new to me.

How about the type ride for FO's? Done from the left or right seat. Not that it matters, just curious.

Thanks for the help.

I just finished the other day. Here is the scoop:

2 weeks indoc. Next 2 weeks systems/procedures: 4 sessions of Systems Integrated Training (SIT) 4h each day followed by 4h CBT self study. Then 6 sessions of Procedures Training (PT) 4h as well followed by 4h CBT self study again.

SIT and PT is in a FTD which is a fairly good representation of the cockpit for what they are using it for. You go from preflight flows to shooting approaches in it and learn to push the knobs before you hit the sim.

Next oral, then 6 sim lessons + PIC type from the left seat, then LOFT and the 25h OE.

There are only 3 memory items, and not very many limitations. The oral is the usual going over the overhead, and talking about systems as you go. Very straight forward no BS and not in depth. Pilot knowledge only. The way it should be.

Overall I thought Spirit's training department had a pretty good program. People are there for you while you are in Miramar and everyone is helpful and friendly. I wish they would use just a bit less Power Point and a little more traditional lectures but it gets the job done. Indoc is horrible, but that is not their fault. Clicking through some 5 zillion slides is no fun.

You can expect 6 days on 1 off in training. Sim is tailored aruond a bit so it varies.

Good luck!

Congrats on finishing.

6 on 1 off? Ouch. Not used to that. I guess I'd rather just pound it out and be done with it, so it's actually okay with me.

Anyway, thanks for the response. Good luck on line.

Oh, also . . .

Do you get hard copies of the AOM, COM, etc?

Yes. You get a GOM, AOM1&2, a very thin binder for updates, COM, and 2 plastic binders for your Jepp. However you only need to carry the Jepp plates and the thin binder in you bag because the rest is on a toughbook in the plane in PDF format. Of course for class you will carry whatever you need for that day.
